Ubisoft Announces Protöthea WiiWare Title
SAN FRANCISCO – May 6, 2008 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that Protöthea™ will be available in May for WiiWare™ in North America – Protöthea is rated “E” for Everyone.

Protöthea, Ubisoft’s exclusive WiiWare launch window title, is a 3D top-down vertical scrolling shooter game putting players in complete control of a last-generation spaceship via the Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™. The easy-to-play game introduces new concepts to a beloved classic game style while mixing genres and utilizing the full capabilities of the Wii™ system, from graphics to controls.

“Ubisoft is excited to bring Protöthea exclusively to the platform and we feel it’s a must-have WiiWare title,” shared James Regan, vice president of third party operations, Ubisoft. “Protöthea really reminds me of some of the best arcade games, with the Wii Remote as an added dimension. It’s just a flurry of fast-paced action that anyone can simply pick up and enjoy.”

The compelling storyline immerses players into an adventure where they will need to destroy an asteroid called “Maqno 01″ and sabotage the plans of a political faction called “The Core.” Players will quickly jump right in and guide their ship through multiple missions on futuristic planets where enemy AI is dynamic and will change based on the player’s actions – so there are no predictable enemy paths, and therefore always a different game play experience. Players will have a wide range of eight different air-to-air weapons and two different air-to-ground bombs at their disposal, and can attack however they choose. In addition, there is a special power that decelerates time, allowing players to easily avoid enemy fire while they are able to move rapidly and attack enemies.

Steelseries 7G Keyboard

SteelSeries Introduces the 7G Professional Gaming Keyboard

Chicago, U.S.A. – May 5, 2008 – The leading manufacturer of innovative professional gaming gear, SteelSeries, today announced the U.S. release of its new gaming keyboard, the SteelSeries 7G. The keyboard, designed with 18-karat gold-plated mechanical switches, sets new industry standards for advanced key combinations and Actions-Per-Minute (APM). This translates into quicker reaction times and stronger results.

The SteelSeries 7G keyboard sets a new industry standard for gaming keyboards by allowing users to perform at new levels with advanced key combinations. Utilizing a powerful PS/2 buffer-system created specifically for gaming, the SteelSeries 7G keyboard eliminates “anti-ghosting” by supporting as many simultaneous key press commands as there are keys on the keyboard. What this does, for example, is allow users in a first person shooter game to walk, crouch, aim, fire and check the scoreboard simultaneously. Traditional keyboards do not allow this much functionality all at once.

The keyboard was built specifically to offer gaming-grade response times as well as an unmatched durability with a switch lifetime of 50 million operations, which is 10 or more times the lifespan of a typical “membrane” keyboard which has a maximum of 1-5 million total keystrokes in a lifetime.

“Professional gamers demand top quality equipment that provides durability and quicker response times,” said Bruce Hawver, CEO of SteelSeries. “The time that we’ve invested into working with literally hundreds of gamers to design the SteelSeries 7G keyboard has resulted in a device that will truly change the way you play, limiting gamers only by their skill level – not their equipment.”

The SteelSeries 7G keyboard is equipped with audio ports for headphone-out and microphone-in and includes a two port USB hub. With both PS/2 and USB connectors, the keyboard features the compact SteelSeries Media Controls, an essential gaming element that allows the user quick access to volume, muting and other audio controls.

Recognizing the importance of high-performance PC gaming equipment, professional Counter-Strike player, Franz “mouz/gore” Burghardt, said that,

“SteelSeries creates top quality gaming gear that helps players perform at their best. The 7G has taken gaming keyboards to a whole new level by eliminating anti-ghosting and increasing the response time, which is so important for first-person shooter games. It’s a tool I can rely on even on a professional level.”

Franz Burghardt and his teammates from mousesports recently won the ESL Masters championship at CeBIT in Germany, beating the best teams in the world and winning $50,000 USD.

The mechanical tactile system is ergonomically designed to ensure ease-of-use, and the no-click switches and iron-infused plastic make the SteelSeries 7G keyboard both comfortable and durable for professional or competitive gamers.

The new SteelSeries 7G keyboard, with an MSRP of $149.99 USD, is available for purchase at Dell.com, AlienWare.com, NewEgg.com, Amazon.com and on the SteelSeries Web site at http://www.SteelSeries.com.

Jupiter Lander docks on mobile

Eidos introduces esteemed video game classic to mobile

Eidos Interactive, creators of some of the world’s leading videogame properties, brings a video game classic to the mobile platform in June.

Originally released for the Commodore 64 in 1983, the game balances taut gameplay with precise controls as the player attempts to steer a space craft to safety using only thrusters as directional controls and ease it on to a choice of landing bays.

Boasting ten challenging stages, the player begins each level with a limited supply of fuel which is depleted every time the ship’s thrusters are engaged. As the player progresses, the level designs grow more fiendish with craggy rock formations testing the player’s skills, while later stages add ever more hazards. Adding to the challenge are multiple landing zones located throughout the levels, with the harder to reach areas offering huge bonuses for the intrepid pilot.

Players have the choice of playing the original Jupiter Lander, in a perfect recreation of the Commodore 64 game complete with eight-colour palette and retro visuals, or as a polished contemporary version featuring all-new graphics, complete with particle effects and a zoom mode. Both retain the timeless gameplay of the original, with the simplistic controls perfectly suited for mobile phone use.

Wii Exclusive Party Crashers announced

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Detn8 Games/Twelve Interactive Sign Deal for Party Crashers
U.S. game publisher Detn8 Games Ltd. and Italian game developer Twelve Interactive have announced a development deal to create Party Crashers™, an original title for the Wii™ home video game system.

Set for release in April, 2009, Party Crashers is composed of 25 party games in one product, including a host of action games along with puzzle games, brain teasers, and a music-based game. Utilizing the crash-dummy characters from Twelve Interactive’s platform game CID – The Dummy, Party Crashers includes individual game titles such as Pie in the Face, Chinese Plates, Dummy Cannonball, Pizza Delivery, Treasure Island, and Dummy Dance. Some of the games will be “unlockable” by performing well in other games.

While a single player can enjoy the game, Party Crashers naturally lends itself to family/friend, multiplayer fun, taking full advantage of the motion features of the Wii Remote. The game is being designed specifically for the Wii.

“Party Crashers will be great for group play by families and friends,” says Giuseppe Crugliano, Managing Director of Twelve Interactive. “We’ll keep the game mechanics simple and easy to pick up without diminishing the challenge and replay value or compromising the feeling of reward for doing well.” Party Crashers will be available at major retailers.

‘NarutoTM: Ultimate Ninja® Storm’ Coming To Europe Exclusive For PlayStation®3

Naruto’s PLAYSTATION 3 Debut Revolutionizes Ninja Action with Full 3D Combat, Free-Roaming Exploration and Incredible Anime Graphics
LYON, FRANCE – 5 May 2008 – Atari today announced the forthcoming European release of NAMCO BANDAI Games’ Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. Based on the popular Naruto animated television series currently on air across Europe, the game delivers ninja action on an unprecedented scale as players go head to head in full 3D combat, investigate every inch of the Hidden Leaf Village in open-world exploration and revel in high definition graphics that surpass traditional hand-drawn animation. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm is scheduled for European release in November 2008.

Evolving the head-to-head fighting action of the Ultimate Ninja series, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm lets players battle in full 3D across massive environments. Players will unleash powerful jutsu attacks, perform acrobatic evasive manoeuvres and even run up walls and over water as they pursue their opponent for ninja supremacy. Players can customize their character’s fighting style and recruit up to two support characters to put their own stamp on the action. Each character in the game is capable of transforming into powerful Awakening forms under certain gameplay conditions, offering new traits and abilities to the game’s impressive ninja roster of 25 popular characters from the animated series. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm supports head-to-head multiplayer fighting for up to two players.

Allowing players to further immerse themselves in the world of Naruto, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm introduces all-new free-roaming exploration across the Hidden Leaf Village and the Forest of Death. Players can search every inch of these iconic environments to take on 100 unique missions, collect valuable scrolls and interact with additional characters from the Naruto animated series. Injecting additional variety to the game’s head-to head combat, these missions include races, special deliveries and large-scale battles against massive opponents.

Taking advantage of an original next-generation graphics engine, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm boasts fluid animation, incredible visual detail and an advanced facial expression system to create high-definition graphics on the PLAYSTATION 3 that surpass traditional hand-drawn animation. Replicating the same environments, characters and effects as the hit animated series, this new technology allows gamers to become a part of the world of Naruto like never before.
