Rappelz adds Epic V: Dragonic Age expansion

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

The upcoming extension Epic V: Dragonic Age for the free-to-play MMORPG Rappelz, scheduled for the beginning of this summer, will introduce a lot of new content in the Rappelz world. Here are some of the changes regarding new areas and dungeons:

The main new zone brought by the Epic V is the Veiled Island. Once an untouchable and hidden fortress built by the Draconians to protect the secret of the Dragon’s Powers, the Veiled Island has been discovered by explorers who opened the road for new adventurers and monster hunters. Without adventurers to control the monsters populations for ages, the creatures did proliferate and became stronger. The Veiled Island is now one of the most dangerous areas of the world of Rappelz, where only the strongest will be able to survive…

The Dragon’s Lair is the dungeon of the Veiled Island, a deep cave full of agressive dragons and powerful magical monsters. Far more impressive and dangerous than the Donjon of Palmir, the Dragon’s Lair is a challenge for the highest level adventurers and characters below level 120 may not even survive at the entrance of the cave. The Dragon’s Lair will be the location to collect new equipements, but above all, it will be the only place to tame the new unique creatures: the White Dragon and the Cerberus.

Apart of these two new epic zones, many other territories have been revamped and changed in order to propose to the adventurers new hunting grounds. New monsters, such as the Blood Faeries, Twisted Succubus or White Wolf will also join the existing bestiary.

With several hundreds of thousands of players around the world, Rappelz is one of the major international free-to-play MMORPG. The extension Epic V: Dragonic Age, scheduled for the beginning of this summer on the French and German servers, is the first major content addition since the launch of the game in its European versions.

THE VENUE NETWORK SELECTS ICARUS STUDIOS VIRTUAL WORLDS PLATFORM FOR ON-DEMAND VIRTUAL VENUES

CARY, NC – JUNE 17, 2008 – Icarus Studios, which provides a turnkey solution for creating virtual worlds, MMOGs and serious games, today announced that it has signed a partnership agreement to license the Icarus Platform to The Venue Network, Inc., a provider of on-demand virtual venues where presenters can share content and customize unique experiences for online attendees. The Icarus Studios Platform provides a solution for leading entertainment companies, intellectual property owners, and e-learning customers.

“We are very excited to partner with The Venue Network,” said Jim Hettinger, CEO, Icarus Studios. “Serious games and distance learning have become core uses for our virtual world technology platform, and The Venue Network’s 3D virtual venues is a great example.”

The Venue Network (TVN) is an on-demand virtual venue solution, where presenters and educators can easily meet with online attendees and share documents and media in a console-game quality 3D experience in a Web browser. Through the use of avatars and point-and-click templates, TVN empowers companies and individuals to create immersive and interactive learning, collaborative, social, and entertaining experiences unhindered by distance, time, and impractical costs.

“The Venue Network had to select a very user-friendly technology platform that could provide MMOG-quality experiences with the ease and social features of virtual worlds in a Web browser,” said David Gardner, CEO, The Venue Network. “The Icarus Platform is the only enterprise-grade solution that met this requirement and is also easy to develop on and cost-effective to run.”

Space Station Sim to be out this month

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008
REALISTIC SPACE AGE STRATEGY GAME TO BE RELEASED BY AVANQUEST

SPACE STATION SIM BETA TESTED BY NASA PERSONNEL

Space Station Sim, a new simulation game for PC, will be released this month by Avanquest Software Publishing. The game provides an out of this world experience as players manage the creation of an international space station in true 3D construction. Space Station Sim was developed in conjunction with, and beta tested by NASA personnel, leading to the possibility of it being used for future mission planning.

Space Station Sim challenges players to embark on a new age for man amongst the stars as they build a home 240 miles high, while flying at 17,500 miles per hour. The game begins in the Mission Control Centre, where the player launches new modules and components, recruits crew members, organises supply missions and manages the project budget.

As the Chief Administrator of NASA, players are challenged to build their own space station utilising modules developed from actual NASA, ESA (European Space Agency), JAXA (Japanese Space Agency), CSA (Canadian Space Agency) and RSA (Russian Space Agency) designs.

To man the International Space Station (ISS), crew members must be recruited with certain skills, specialities and character traits by the player. During the game, these factors will have an impact; crew members with a poor work ethic may not complete repairs, while certain specialists will be required to fulfil specific tasks. Initially the crew will need to be guided, but as the game progresses, they will become more automated, allowing the player to concentrate on other objectives.

Back in the control centre, players must maintain good political relationships between the different represented countries. The budget rises and falls in relation to international goodwill, forcing players to manage the allocation of resources across research, funding and construction carefully to avoid compromising development of the ISS.
