NFL Great Makes History As Guinness World Records Presents EA SPORTS With Records For Madden NFL Video Game Franchise

NEW YORK – (June 25, 2008) - With drives rivaled only by his avatar, former Madden NFL cover boy Daunte Culpepper persevered and established a new Guinness World Record for “Highest Score in the Two-Minute Drill on Madden NFL 2002″ with a staggering 14,500 points. Playing the same game that featured him on the cover, Culpepper played as himself with the Minnesota Vikings and made some serious connections to then-teammate Randy Moss. He earned the record at EA’s 20th Anniversary Premiere Party for Madden NFL 09, and if unbeaten, will be included in the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2009, scheduled for release next February.

Guinness World Records was at the event to present EA with two Madden NFL franchise records, “Most Games in an NFL Series (16 titles)” and “Highest First Week Sales of an NFL Game (2 million units for Madden NFL 07)”, both of which appear in the current Gamer’s Edition book. Four other former Madden NFL cover athletes joined Culpepper in celebrating the premiere of the new game at Touch in New York City, including Shaun Alexander, Marshall Faulk, Ray Lewis, and Vince Young.

Culpepper’s record was established in a Guinness World Records room where official judges were present to record visitors’ attempts at the “Two-Minute Drill” on Madden NFL 2002. The new mark is one of several newly established video game records that Guinness World Records is tracking as it expands its coverage of the video game industry.

The Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008 (SRP: $19.95), the first Guinness World Records book devoted solely to the world of gaming, is on shelves now and bursting with new records, high score statistics and fascinating facts.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith first impression

Just picked up GH:Aerosmith. I’ve only had some experience with the wife and kids playing Easy mode for the first 8 songs, but it’s great to have new GH songs to play.

After all I have read and heard about the participation, i was a bit disappointed to find out that the GH house band performs some songs. But. And there’s a but here…. the songs that Aerosmith does are sung by them, and the fact that they mo-capped all songs is evident. It’s cool to see some of what they do while playing songs, and you can see some moments that you do see live on stage, like Joe and Steven interacting while playing a song.

The easy mode definately seems to be ratcheted down a notch, my 7 year old is playing songs like a pro, and my 4 year old can almost carry a whole song, which is an improvement over the GHIII easy mode. Maybe they’re just better at using the guitar?

That’s it so far, more review coming later on. Back to playing!

Developer Callipygian Games to Utilize the Pixel Mine Portal and Micro-payment Transaction System

AUSTIN, TX – June 27th, 2008 - Pixel Mine, Inc. and Callipygian Games, LLC. announced today that Callipygian Games will utilize the Pixel Mine portal and Pixel Mine’s internal micro-payment transaction system for its debut title, Secondhand Lands. Secondhand Lands, an edgy fairy-tale MMOG, will be the fourth title on the Pixel Mine Portal.

Since the company’s inception in 2007, Pixel Mine has focused on providing original and innovative content. The Austin-based developer plans on adding three to four games to the portal each year, some of those coming from third party independent developers such as Callipygian Games, LLC.

Bobby Thurman, founder of Callipygian Games and lead developer on Secondhand Lands, confides, “We chose to work with Pixel Mine because they offered us the best value for our company and our players. As an independent developer it is very difficult to find a distribution deal that gives us a package with everything we need to manage accounts and handle payments. Also, we are excited to be working with another Austin company; this town is rich with talent and services tailored for game creation.”

“Having published independent titles ourselves, we know that the deck is stacked in favor of the publisher,” Pixel Mine President David Reese explains. “Our goal with the Pixel Mine Portal is to provide a distribution model, economy, and community management service which allows the independent developer to focus on their game but still retain ownership of the IP and receive the majority of the revenue for their hard work.”

505 Games Announces Subbuteo Exclusively for Nintendo DS
Milton Keynes, 27th June 2008 – 505 Games today announced the release of the classic table football game, Subbuteo, exclusively for Nintendo DS across Europe in September 2008.

Italian game developer ARTEMATICA has faithfully recreated the original tabletop football game on the Nintendo handheld, making full use of the Dual Screen functionality. Gamers interact with the game using the stylus on the lower screen to set the player position, defend, attack, pass and shoot, with full control over ball. Using the finger-flick icon on the screen, the player can choose the angle and power of the kick just like the real thing. The upper screen gives real time feedback on all the match action with fouls, goals and even those all-important aerobatic shots.

Fully customisable Tournaments and Traditional Leagues are available, as well as a powerful game editor, allowing gamers to create new teams, change player names and colours and change the team’s logo. A comprehensive tutorial mode provides all the information on learning the basics along with the official Subbuteo rules. Taking the game beyond the single player mode, Subbuteo players can challenge other players in a multiplayer game using the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection.

Independent game developers may be great at programming but their creations often grind to a halt when it comes to 3D modelling. Now the problem can be solved easily and cheaply with a quick visit to the Web’s newest asset superstore.

Game Creator Store is the latest idea from The Game Creators www.thegamecreators.com , the UK-based game-making gurus who have spent the last ten years making game creation accessible to the masses. It’s an on-line treasure chest of fully animated, royalty free assets that stand out from the rest because they are designed specifically for developers, come game ready and are fantastic value.

Currently, Game Creator Store has more than 1,000 assets that include characters, weapons, objects and vehicles and they are growing every week with plans to add Ogg format music, sound effects, decals and sky boxes. They come from a variety of carefully selected authors and are fully tested.
