NFL Great Makes History As Guinness World Records Presents EA SPORTS With Records For Madden NFL Video Game Franchise

NEW YORK – (June 25, 2008) - With drives rivaled only by his avatar, former Madden NFL cover boy Daunte Culpepper persevered and established a new Guinness World Record for “Highest Score in the Two-Minute Drill on Madden NFL 2002″ with a staggering 14,500 points. Playing the same game that featured him on the cover, Culpepper played as himself with the Minnesota Vikings and made some serious connections to then-teammate Randy Moss. He earned the record at EA’s 20th Anniversary Premiere Party for Madden NFL 09, and if unbeaten, will be included in the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2009, scheduled for release next February.

Guinness World Records was at the event to present EA with two Madden NFL franchise records, “Most Games in an NFL Series (16 titles)” and “Highest First Week Sales of an NFL Game (2 million units for Madden NFL 07)”, both of which appear in the current Gamer’s Edition book. Four other former Madden NFL cover athletes joined Culpepper in celebrating the premiere of the new game at Touch in New York City, including Shaun Alexander, Marshall Faulk, Ray Lewis, and Vince Young.

Culpepper’s record was established in a Guinness World Records room where official judges were present to record visitors’ attempts at the “Two-Minute Drill” on Madden NFL 2002. The new mark is one of several newly established video game records that Guinness World Records is tracking as it expands its coverage of the video game industry.

The Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008 (SRP: $19.95), the first Guinness World Records book devoted solely to the world of gaming, is on shelves now and bursting with new records, high score statistics and fascinating facts.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith first impression

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Just picked up GH:Aerosmith. I’ve only had some experience with the wife and kids playing Easy mode for the first 8 songs, but it’s great to have new GH songs to play.

After all I have read and heard about the participation, i was a bit disappointed to find out that the GH house band performs some songs. But. And there’s a but here…. the songs that Aerosmith does are sung by them, and the fact that they mo-capped all songs is evident. It’s cool to see some of what they do while playing songs, and you can see some moments that you do see live on stage, like Joe and Steven interacting while playing a song.

The easy mode definately seems to be ratcheted down a notch, my 7 year old is playing songs like a pro, and my 4 year old can almost carry a whole song, which is an improvement over the GHIII easy mode. Maybe they’re just better at using the guitar?

That’s it so far, more review coming later on. Back to playing!

Developer Callipygian Games to Utilize the Pixel Mine Portal and Micro-payment Transaction System

AUSTIN, TX – June 27th, 2008 - Pixel Mine, Inc. and Callipygian Games, LLC. announced today that Callipygian Games will utilize the Pixel Mine portal and Pixel Mine’s internal micro-payment transaction system for its debut title, Secondhand Lands. Secondhand Lands, an edgy fairy-tale MMOG, will be the fourth title on the Pixel Mine Portal.

Since the company’s inception in 2007, Pixel Mine has focused on providing original and innovative content. The Austin-based developer plans on adding three to four games to the portal each year, some of those coming from third party independent developers such as Callipygian Games, LLC.

Bobby Thurman, founder of Callipygian Games and lead developer on Secondhand Lands, confides, “We chose to work with Pixel Mine because they offered us the best value for our company and our players. As an independent developer it is very difficult to find a distribution deal that gives us a package with everything we need to manage accounts and handle payments. Also, we are excited to be working with another Austin company; this town is rich with talent and services tailored for game creation.”

“Having published independent titles ourselves, we know that the deck is stacked in favor of the publisher,” Pixel Mine President David Reese explains. “Our goal with the Pixel Mine Portal is to provide a distribution model, economy, and community management service which allows the independent developer to focus on their game but still retain ownership of the IP and receive the majority of the revenue for their hard work.”

Game Creators Store makes 3D models easy

Assets galore in the new Game Creator Store

Independent game developers may be great at programming but their creations often grind to a halt when it comes to 3D modelling. Now the problem can be solved easily and cheaply with a quick visit to the Web’s newest asset superstore.

Game Creator Store is the latest idea from The Game Creators , the UK-based game-making gurus who have spent the last ten years making game creation accessible to the masses. It’s an on-line treasure chest of fully animated, royalty free assets that stand out from the rest because they are designed specifically for developers, come game ready and are fantastic value.

Currently, Game Creator Store has more than 1,000 assets that include characters, weapons, objects and vehicles and they are growing every week with plans to add Ogg format music, sound effects, decals and sky boxes. They come from a variety of carefully selected authors and are fully tested. Roll-out plans include support for more formats including .DTS (Torque), .FBX (Microsoft XNA, 3D Studio Max, Maya, Motion Builder, XSI, Lightwave, Blender and Milkshape) and support for Collada.

Customers who already have The Game Creators’ powerful first person shooter creation package FPS Creator (FPSC) can access the Store directly from within the latest version 1.10 or users can download the new and completely FREE cut-down version of FPSC! Development is already underway to make the Store an external and free application that works for the Dark GDK and other engines. Store will also be built into The Game Creators’ Dark Basic Professional product.

In the Store, you can browse the libraries or use the search function to find what you want. Before adding items to your cart you can read a full written description, see the characters in action and benefit from star ratings based on previous users’ opinions.

For easy shopping, customers buy points in blocks of 500 to 2,000. A high quality, fully animated character will cost in the region of £2.50, a weapon £1.50 and a static item 50p. A special section of the Store also offers some free items. Selections are automatically downloaded into FPSC and points are deducted only when the download is successfully completed. If you experience hard-drive problems, your purchase entitles you to re-download your chosen objects up to five times.

“Game Creator Store is another significant step in our campaign to democratise game development,” says Richard Vanner, Financial Director with The Game Creators. “With the games industry increasingly polarising on a few big players, it’s good to broaden it out with new talent but game making isn’t as easy as many people think. Independent game developers have the need to create 3D models but they’re not artists so they don’t always have the ability or contacts.

“Most current catalogues are designed more for artists than developers and their assets have a high polygon count that doesn’t support quick gaming. Game Creator Store fills the gap with objects that are better priced than existing offerings and come game ready.”

Seven Lights Launches The Continuum, An Original Online Collectible War Game

CHICAGO, IL (June 27, 2008) Today the premier online collectible war game, The Continuum ( <> ), was launched by Seven Lights, LLC. This original flash-based game blends the best elements of strategy gaming, collectible gaming, RPGs and digital goods into a distinctive game universe, where players’ actions affect a gripping narrative.

The Continuum’s gameplay is built around the game’s ever-expanding universe of dynamic digital characters from distinct game realities that do battle with each other in head-to-head online match-ups. Players of the game develop armies through battles, equipment discovery, and upgrades. Their characters and abilities are built through victory, trade, and purchase. For those players who sign up between June 25th and July 9th, 2008, they will get the exciting opportunity to purchase a special, one-time-only Launch Character Pack that will give them the advantage of additional characters to build their armies and powers.

The Characters of The Continuum each have their own unique attributes and abilities, and range in rarity from common to rare to legendary to one-of-a-kind. The characters are constantly developing through The Continuum’s RPG game elements, as the game allows players to use experience points for alterations, such as increasing and adding new characteristics and abilities. All customized in-game characters, not just the heroes, develop in a number of different ways to continually change the combat landscape and keep the game exciting and fresh every time it’s played. Plus, unlike other RPGs, players’ developed characters retain their built-up RPG statistics from game to game and version to version.

The game is free to start and download, and players will be given a number of starter characters. The Continuum, which can be played for ten minutes or for hours, features a level playing field, where players can have an even match regardless of how much they have invested in their characters either financially and/or with their time. Players will also be able to buy additional character packs or character subscriptions to add to their arsenal.

More than 25,000 gamers have pre-registered to play the beta version of The Continuum. This game is playable on all the major browsers and is not platform dependent. The browser-based format allows Seven Lights to constantly add new content (characters, events, abilities, etc…) in an almost real-time basis.
