Edge of Twilight

Edge of Twilight made its official debut at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The steampunk action game has players take on the role of Lex, a hero that exists in two worlds at the same time, and who must traverse through these worlds to keep them both from being destroyed. Edge of Twilight is scheduled to release in Fall 2009 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. For those of you not lucky enough to get to check it out at TGS, here’s a batch of screenshots from the demo that was shown. Enjoy!

Ninjatown

In our Ninjatown update today (a week and a half away!), we have info on four new enemies – Syrup Devils, Chubby Devils, Tribal Devils and Tongueys – as well as two all new districts – the Farmlands and Foothills. Also, if your readers are looking for a great pre-order deal, Amazon.com is still offering an exclusive Ninjatown skin for the Nintendo DS. You can see that here: Amazon Special

And be sure to make your own Wee Ninja in the Wee Ninjatron @ http://create.ninjatown.com

Syrup Devils

Trained by Mr. Demon to spread around Dark Syrup, these Devils use high-pressure hoses to douse Ninjas with the noxious goop. Affected Ninjas will be slowed down temporarily.

Chubby Devils

Chubby Devils are protected by a thick layer of fat that can absorb damage from weak attacks! Only be upgrading your Ninjas or using hard-hitters like the Anti-Ninja will you defeat these adversaries of exercise.

Tribal Devils

These chanting, armored Devils not only attack Ninjas from a great distance, but also do a Dark Syrup dance, summoning a nasty syrup cloud that drenches your Ninjas in sticky goo.

Tongueys

Forked Tongueys are bizarre little creatures! Their profuse salivating allows them to slip right past most Ninjas, and just when you think they’re defeated, they split in two! They’re also liars!

The Farmlands

You’ll need to defend the crops of Rural Route 4 on your trek through the Farmlands. Spin the Wheel of Efficiency, your newest Ol’ Master Ninja Power, and earn a random bonus like invincible Ninjas or 100 cookies! Ol’ Wheat Road brings your first conflict with the Forked Tongueys, which can slip past most Ninjas and will split in two when on the verge of being defeated! At the Crop Circle, you’ll need to rely on one of your Ol’ Master Skills if you hope to triumph over Mr. Demon’s minions, and you can place a Ninja Temple near troops to increase the cookies they gain from enemies. In the final Farmlands showdown, you’ll battle with the Queen of the Forked Tongueys at River Road.

The Foothills

Mr. Demon has used trickery to make his way to the foothills of the Feroshi Mountains! Take down his troops on the Jagged Pathway as you enlist the help of the rare and powerful Mountain Ninjas! You’ll need to strategically divide up your defenses when you tackle the Split Pass, and beware of the Balloon Devils, who rain destruction down from above. Foothills Pond has two entrances and exits to defend, and you’ll need to place your Ninja resources carefully to take down wave after wave of the enemy. Finally, Mountain Junction has four paths to defend, and Ninja Consultant estimates at least 100 enemies to defeat, indicating that this is just a taste of the difficult challenges that lay ahead for the Ninjas.

X-Blades

We have some exciting new information from X-Blades, the anime inspired action game scheduled to ship later this winter. Below you’ll find all new details on two of the spells from the game – Darkball and Dark Rage – as well as two of the beasts you’ll encounter – Pangos and The Six Winged. We’ve also included the Xbox 360 and PS3 box art in the assets link for your viewing pleasure.

Darkball:

Sometimes there are situations where other powers fail, and the dark power seems to be the only thing that can overcome the odds. Darkball is useful; you could throw a ball of energy that explodes on contact and throws your opponent to the ground. What makes it even more appealing is that monsters without any magic skills can’t escape from Darkball and creatures of Light are extremely vulnerable to it.

Dark Rage:

In really crazy situations, it might be a good idea to let the dark power control Ayumi. She can release this power when she is surrounded by enemies. She creates a network of darkness that lashes out of the ground at those around her. Its becoming easy to see how the Dark power can be used to help her. (Requirement: Darkball)

Pangos:

Figety and always hungry, Pango try to compensate for their lack of magic with their sharp teeth, high agility and large numbers. Pango surround their victim, exhaust him with a steady onslaught of bites and jabs, and then kick him down and tear him to pieces.

The Six-Winged:

This flying insect-like creature looks like a dragonfly with one huge eye. In actuality, Six-winged are almost blind, and during flight, can only find their prey by detecting the heat all living things radiate. Their eye is, in fact, a lens which allows them to direct their magical power toward their victim. Experienced warriors know these creatures can be killed with just a knife and the necessary skills. Bullets or offensive spells can easily reach a Six-winged in the air.

Decrease Payment Fraud and Convert High-Risk Customers With Paxguard

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Drawing upon its ten years of experience in the online payment processing market, PayByCash® today launched PaxGuard™ which will reduce payment fraud-related expenses and lost revenue for e-commerce merchants of any size. PaxGuard not only reduces the expense of fraud, it also offers no-risk payment options for high risk customers via PayByCash.

PaxGuard uses a suite of detection rules and market-leading fraud detection technologies. It employs a vast, ever expanding network of payment and fraud intelligence to determine the risk of fraud. Rules are configured and managed by merchants to suit the unique risk tolerances of their enterprise. High-risk customers can be converted using PayByCash’s no-risk payment methods. Thus merchants can set their risk tolerance as low as they like and not turn away legitimate, paying customers.

“Proprietary elements of PaxGuard have long been used by PayByCash to cut fraud rates for our merchants,” said Kevin Higgins, president of PayByCash. “Now we’ve layered in technology from strategic partners with complementary approaches to fighting fraud. What we have now is something remarkably effective and comprehensive, a phenomenally powerful product. It’s the only fraud protection solution that protects merchants across a broad range of payment methods. This is critical in an environment where more merchants are accepting numerous payment methods.”

PaxGuard has an extremely effective default configuration. Every setting, however, can be customized, enabling merchants to set their risk tolerances based on their specific business and the payment methods they accept. PaxGuard provides a number of on-demand reports that help merchants gain insight into the incidence of fraud on their site and tune their detection rules to better prevent fraud while maintaining a positive customer experience.

“PaxGuard protects e-commerce merchants from both technically sophisticated fraudsters using illegal techniques such as phishing and identity theft to make fraudulent purchases, and so-called ‘friendly fraud’ which can be perpetrated by any legitimate customer,” said Christopher Corry, product manager of PaxGuard. “With a single integration to PaxGuard, e-commerce systems receive the protection of many best-of-breed fraud detection solutions for all of their payment methods.”

Beyond Protocol is looking for guilds.

Saturday, October 18th, 2008
If you still have yet to hear about Beyond Protocol, it is an MMORTS about to launch November 21st. It offers the player the chance to run their own empire with more options for customization than any other game on the market. It also balances the 5 main elements (Diplomacy, Espionage, Research, Trade, and War) of a typical RTS, rather than focusing on one or two. However, this article, as you may have gleaned from the title, focuses on the cooperative play aspects of the game: Guilds and Aliases. Guilds encourage individual empires to band together, while Aliases encourage players to work together in a single empire. The developers know that MMO players want to play together, so they have implemented these features to allow them to have fun doing just that. They have also cooked up a great deal for guilds, so read on to find out how you and your guild members can each play the game for about $5 a month!.
When a guild is formed, requiring 5 initial players, there are several integral options available to those players. Once the guild is created, these options are compounded with even more, such as, event creation, promotion/demotion and treasury control, all of which can be voted on. The voting process is also up for customization, not only can members propose just about anything and have the guild vote on it, but the ranks within the guild can be given custom powers, including voting weights. It is therefore possible to make any sort of government within the guild, from a pure democracy to a complete autocracy. Will it be one vote for every citizen, one vote above every one else, or some combination thereof? Of course this level of customization would not be complete without the option for editing rank names. This allows players to mold the feel of their guild as well as the function. Are the low level players in the guild Grunts, Flies, Peasants, Cadets, Kindergartners, while the highest rank could be Elite, Knight, Juggernaut, Supreme Ruler, Omni-Potentate, or can you think of something more creative? Finally, no organization is truly complete without an event planner of some kind, and one has been included in the guild system.

Alias accounts allow one player to log into another player’s account legally, with customizable access, and without exposing any passwords. If player A were to give player B an alias, then player B could log into player A’s account and play it as if it were his/her own.

That is, if player A trusts player B enough to grant full access. Access can be restricted to a single portion, or granted to the entire empire, and any combination in between. Any number of players can be logged in to one account simultaneously, but the player giving out the alias accounts, player A in this case, holds sovereign control over the rights of all alias accounts. So, while it is possible to invite a saboteur into your empire, once the betrayal is made known, any future damage can be prevented with a few clicks. However, if player A picks the correct players to alias, then the result is an empire run by players all doing what they love most about the game, which would be a very formidable force. It would be akin to being able to simultaneously use all four main classifications of an RTS player: Commander, Rusher, Strategist and Turtle.
So, all of that is well and good, but someone said $5 a month? You read right, there is a real opportunity to pay the equivalent of $5 a month in subscriptions for the life of your account, rather than $12. How do you qualify for this deal? Well, first of all, there has been a longstanding deal between the beta testers and the developers that any player who logs about 10 days of game play by October 31st, 2008 and preorders the game will qualify. However, here’s the new deal, if your guild has 20 or more members who have preordered the game, by the 31st, then the target mark of 10 days is reduced to 5. There will also be at least one more opportunity to further reduce that time, so be on the look out for Beyond Protocol news! Additionally, the deal for 20 preorders in a guild has always been, and still is, that the guild will receive a unique Space Station hull with a texture/logo of their own design, signifying the prestige of that guild for years to come. Feel free to encourage/recruit/bribe anyone you need, to hit that mark! If you have any questions, click here to talk to a customer service representative.

Ubisoft unviels the official Far Cry 2 Space in Playstation Home’s closed beta

Far Cry® 2 is the First Third-Party Game Space Featured in PlayStation®Home

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – October 16, 2008 – Today Ubisoft announced the launch of the official Far Cry® 2 space in PlayStation®Home’s closed beta in North America and Europe. Featuring details from the game’s expansive open world universe wrapped in what will become a fully interactive experience, the Far Cry 2 space marks the first third-party video game environment in PlayStation Home. PlayStation Home is a 3D social gaming community that allows PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system users to meet, chat, plan and launch into games together. Gamers can create their own custom avatar, decorate their personal apartment, play mini-games, shop, watch videos, attend special events and much, much more.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to collaborate with PlayStation on this ground-breaking endeavor and have Far Cry 2 be the first third-party video game to have an official space in PlayStation Home,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of marketing and sales, Ubisoft, U.S. “Far Cry 2’s open world setting offers players a level of immersion that very few video games can match, and bringing that robust and dynamic environment to PlayStation Home will allow players to further engage themselves in the game’s gritty African setting in fun and interactive ways.”

As Far Cry 2 pushes the envelope with the dynamic nature of its gameplay and environments, so will its official space in PlayStation Home. The Far Cry 2 space will continue to grow and evolve alongside PlayStation Home, with future additions of new interactive features and functions to create a living, growing platform for both the Far Cry and PlayStation communities. The recently launched Far Cry 2 space in PlayStation Home opens the doors for players to explore the interactive area containing a wealth of information about Far Cry 2’s missions and non-playable characters, in addition to other strategic elements of the game. Among the available activities will be a multiplayer game of Mancala that will use bullets as game pieces, the opportunity to explore in-game environments including a bombed-out train station that has been turned into an ad hoc café, as well as the ability to launch the game directly from the PlayStation Home space.

About Far Cry 2
Caught between two rival factions in war-torn Africa, you are sent to take out “The Jackal,” a mysterious character who has rekindled the conflict between the warlords, jeopardizing thousands of lives. In order to fulfill your mission you will have to play the factions against each other, identify and exploit their weaknesses and neutralize their superior numbers and firepower with surprise, subversion, cunning and, of course, brute force. Far Cry 2 is rated “M” for Mature and will ship to retailers on October 21st for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC.
