Vote Today! Vote for the best monster in Legendary.

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Polling is done, but the poll remains open. I have posted the (rather pitiful) results to the PR for Legendary. I had hoped for a more spirited poll, and will continue to do them in the future, maybe you guys will catch on ;)

A quick FYI. This being my first poll, I have stuck it to the top of the page. All new news items will appear below it until Sunday, when I close the poll. You can comment feedback on this if you like or hate the idea, I’d love to hear it.

That’s right it’s voting day here in the U.S. But even if you aren’t in the United States, you too can vote! Vote for your favorite monster! That’s right, not our presidential candidates, but your favorite monster from Legendary the game, I’m going to post the results to the publisher Saturday Sunday. Polls are open, and to help you decide, here’s a video for each candidate! This is going out a bit late tonight, so, I will extend to Sunday evening before closing down the poll.

ESA FOUNDATION’s ‘NITE TO UNITE’ raises $750,000 for children’s charities

NOVEMBER 4, 2008 – WASHINGTON, D.C. – The ESA Foundation announced today that its annual fundraiser gala for children’s charities, Nite to Unite, raised $750,000 this year. The proceeds from the black-tie optional dinner and auction enables the ESA Foundation, the computer and video game industry’s philanthropic arm, to help improve the lives of American children through grants to a wide variety of organizations.

“The video game industry’s commitment to giving back is stronger than ever,” said ESA president and CEO Michael Gallagher. “For ten years now, Nite to Unite has been the premiere industry event dedicated to children’s causes and honoring its creative visionaries. I’m honored that so many distinguished individuals and organizations attended.”

The sold-out event, which took place on October 22 at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, honored Shigeru Miyamoto, the Nintendo Co. executive who pioneered the development of both the MarioTM series of games and the Wii console.  In recognition of his work, Miyamoto received the 2009 ESA Champion Award, joining the previous recipients including LucasArts’ George Lucas, GameStop’s Dan DeMatteo, and Sony Computer Entertainment’s Ken Kutaragi.

This year’s Nite to Unite co-chairs were Brian Farrell, president & CEO, THQ Inc.; Graham Hopper, executive vice president/GM Disney Interactive Studios; and John Riccitiello, CEO, Electronic Arts.

The ESA Foundation was created by the American interactive entertainment software industry to support and provide opportunities that can make a difference in the lives of America’s youth. The Foundation is fully supported by proceeds from its limited edition charity game pack’s sales and its annual fundraiser, “A Nite to Unite – for Kids,” which together have raised more than $10 million in the last 10 years. Ultimate Game Card Now in Canadian Stores

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Ultimate Game Card™, the prepaid gift card accepted by more than 200 online multiplayer games, is now available in western Canada at 294 Mac’s Convenience Stores, Inc. By the holiday season, 580 of Mac’s eastern stores will also stock Ultimate Game Card. While there are many prepaid cards targeted to multiplayer games, Ultimate Game Card is the only card accepted by more than 200 games and sold in more than 18,000 major retail stores in Canada and the U.S.

Developed and supported by PayByCash®, a subsidiary of PlaySpan, Inc., these pre-paid cards are available at Mac’s in a $20 denomination. They are redeemable at more than 200 online multiplayer game supported by PayByCash. Ultimate Game Card allows customers to make fast payments for online entertainment without submitting financial information.

Kevin Higgins, president of PayByCash commented, “Ultimate Game Card usage continues to grow. Retailer demand is high, allowing game publishers to accept Ultimate Game Card payments at a cost that is lower than if they distributed their own card by themselves or through a third party. It’s as instant as a credit card, accessible all across the United States and Canada, and easy to use for game players of all ages.

“With the Ultimate Game Card having such dense distribution throughout North America, single-publisher game cards are an evolutionary dead end. They don’t make sense for publishers and certainly make things harder for those buying gifts for gamers. With an industry-wide card, givers don’t have to worry about which game their favorite gamer will be playing in a month or two. With the Ultimate Game Card, gift givers can be confident their gift will be a great one.”

Higgins continued, “With the help of our distributor, InComm, our Canadian customers now have access to the fasted growing game card in North America. Canadian gamers can now pay for their online games in the time it takes to run to the convenience store.”
