Fiesta Patch Introduces New Veterans Day Items, Dances

The latest patch for the free-to-play MMORPG Fiesta is now available.

New camouflage Veteran’s Day items allowing players to honor real world heroes in-game are now available in the Fiesta Store. Players can also partner up with friends and form teams of two for the D-Day tag team PvP event running Thursday through Sunday this week.

The new patch also introduces the new Gender Change item to the Fiesta Store, allowing players to further customize their experience and change the gender of already-existing characters. Because the Gender Change item also resets a character’s appearance to its default state, the Beauty Shop Coupon, which allows players to choose from additional visual customization options for their character, will be 50% off for the remainder of the week.

Finally, Set Items have also come to Fiesta. These powerful items are dropped at random from monsters in the world, and provide additional bonuses when paired with other items from the same set.

Players can also select one of the game’s three riding models and set the opponent AI to create the ideal challenge to match their riding skills.”

So there you have it. Give it a try. I may give it a whirl and review the demo here this week.

PopCap Donates First 500 Retail Copies of Bejeweled Twist to Overseas Military

Donation to Games For Soldiers Organization Brings Latest Blinged-OutPuzzler to Armed Forces Personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan

SEATTLE, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ — PopCap Games, the leading developer and publisher of casual games, announced today that it will ship the first 500 boxed, retail copies of Bejeweled Twist(TM) to the non-profit Games For Soldiers (GFS) organization tomorrow. GFS will deliver the boxed copies of the game to armed services personnel stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan in time for soldiers in the field to enjoy it during the holiday season. The third installment in its ultra-popular Bejeweled(R) franchise, Bejeweled Twist arrives on retail shelves next Tuesday, November 18 and is available now via Web download at http://www.popcap.com.

“We really appreciate PopCap’s generous contribution — one of several the company has made to our organization — and are ramping up to distribute copies of Bejeweled Twist to soldiers in the field by mid-December, just in time for the holidays,” said Jesse Williams, founder of Games For Soldiers and Army National Guard soldier who returned home from a deployment to Afghanistan earlier this year. “So-called ‘casual’ games like Bejeweled, Peggle and Zuma are hugely popular with military personnel of all ages, ranks and backgrounds. These games lend themselves to the occasional and haphazard ‘down time’ common to military life in combat areas, and provide some distraction and even stress relief in what are often high-adrenaline and/or high anxiety environments.”

SPC Williams first began contacting video game publishers while stationed in Afghanistan, securing donations to help outfit his unit’s MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) center. After returning home, he founded the Games For Soldiers organization (http://www.gamesforsoldiers.org), which has shipped thousands of video games to armed services personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2008, to both individual soldiers and base recreation centers and Internet cafes. While there are dozens of organizations chartered with distributing books, toiletries, snacks and other items to U.S. Armed Services personnel, Games For Soldiers is the only entity that is specifically focused on donating video games to the troops.

Bejeweled Twist is the recently-launched third installment in the seminal puzzle franchise. From PCs and Macs, PlayStation and Xbox consoles to mobile phones, PDAs, iPods and iPhones, Bejeweled is available for more than a dozen devices and platforms and is the most popular casual game of the 21st century. More than 350 million copies of Bejeweled/Bejeweled 2 have been downloaded from the Web, accounting for nearly a third of the 1 billion-plus downloads of all PopCap(R) titles. Further, the Bejeweled franchise alone has been enjoyed for more than 6 billion hours by consumers worldwide.

Luminous Arc 2: Getting to Know the Kopin

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Cute, magical, and hell-bent on becoming the world’s most powerful monsters… Who knew?

What is Kopin? That is one of life’s great questions. The Kopin in general is a legendary creature with a roundish head and a propensity for magic. Contrary to popular belief, Kopins do not grant wishes. Kopins live in a wide variety of areas in the world of Luminous Arc - they can be deadly opponents in battle or friendly help at the local bar.

In between missions in Luminous Arc, players encounter special sequences called “Life of Kopin,” that feature a specific Kopin determined to become the world’s most powerful monster. He doesn’t necessarily try too hard to meet this goal, and he does it in what might be considered an unorthodox fashion, but he’s dedicated to his mission and his antics enrich the Luminous Arc experience.

There’s a little bit of Kopin in all of us, so fans will be pleased to know that Kopin interaction sequences return from the original game. The new sequences will feature an even wider variety of crazy situations you can put Kopin into, just by tapping on the screen.

The Kopin sequences are another wonderfully unique part of theLuminous Arc experience. Tap him, why don’t you?

As part of the special holiday “Atlus Spoils” program, Luminous Arc 2 is brimming with premium extras. Each and every copy will include a free soundtrack CD featuring select music from the game produced by Yasunori Mitsuda‘s Procyon Studio. Fans that pre-order the game will also receive a limited edition 60-page, 7″x10″ full-color art book, Luminous Art, which offers content from both Luminous Arc games.

For more information, visit the official “Atlus Spoils” site.

Luminous Arc 2 is scheduled for release on November 18.

Hearts of Iron 3 Developer Diary Invades Giant Realm

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Paradox Interactive today released the newest developer diary entry from Johan Andersson, Lead Developer on Hearts of Iron 3Hearts of Iron 3 is an upcoming war-based strategy title for the PC, and the developer diary takes a behind the scenes look at what it takes to bring a game of this scale from concept to final product.

The latest entry from the diary explores the land combat system within the game. Hearts of Iron 3 features an updated land combat system that adds a new level of challenge to the game. The game will retain the same functionality from Hearts of Iron 2, where players move troops to attack. However, a movement penalty has been added in this edition that increases or decreases according to combat events. This new feature allows players to use small units to try and delay the enemy; however, it is not guaranteed that the strategy will succeed. These new features make combat in Hearts of Iron 3 more unpredictable and heart-pumping, while creating a more challenging gameplay experience.

To read the complete developer diary entry for Hearts of Iron 3, please visit: http://giantrealm.gameriot.com/gaming/hearts-of-iron-3-dev-diary-no-5. New entries will be posted on Giant Realm every Wednesday.

Hearts of Iron 3 is scheduled for release during the latter half of 2009.

About Far Wilds
The Far Wilds, an online strategy game in a fantasy setting that combines elements of collectible card games, real-time strategy and massively multiplayer online games. The Far Wilds emphasizes strategy and clever plays rather than fast clicking. The battlefield is randomly generated so each game is very different. Players must constantly be adapting to the changing game conditions. In addition to this higher level of strategy the configurable armies gives The Far Wilds unique, interesting and addictive gameplay.

Ages have gone by since the ancient evil was sealed behind the rift. The civilized world has since been isolated behind a great wall of defense. Now a few brave souls have ventured out into the wilds to build their kingdoms and carve out new realms in the wilderness beyond the wall.

You are one of these brave souls, a warlord in the outskirts of the known world struggling to establish a kingdom in the wild lands. You must use strategy and wits to establish yourself and not be pushed back further into the wilderness. Failure results in your death and the death of your army, and success cannot be measured in mortal terms.
