Preorderers Can Now Build Houses In Engine

Wolfire has recently made the alpha version of Overgrowth’s map editor available to fans that have preordered.  Now players can load, save, translate, rotate and scale assets in engine to create scenes.  Because the latest build also includes many high-detail building materials, fans have begun creating their own structures.

Wolfire still plans to add add more polish to the Phoenix Engine’s terrain system, but it is exciting to see the abundance of assets that can now be used to decorate Overgrowth’s landscape.

For an example of the in-engine buildings that can now be constructed, please observe this scene quickly arranged by Wolfire’s lead artist, Aubrey Serr: http://blog.wolfire.com/2008/12/overgrowth-alpha-5-unleashed/

Second Elven Legacy Developer Diary Entry Emerge

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Paradox Interactive today released the second Elven Legacy developer diary entry. The entry, written by Max Bodrikov, lead game designer from Ino-Co, examines the use of banners in the upcoming PC title.

Max Bodrikov writes, “In our case, a banner is a symbol which looks like a real battle standard, but also displays useful information. First of all it indicates the color of the army. This is especially important in multiplayer, where similar units on opposing sides can fight on the same battlefield. The banner also displays the actions a unit can take during a turn. The units can move and attack in any order. On the banner these options are shown as a sword and a boot. If the unit moves then the boot disappears, but if the unit attacks then the sword disappears. The symbols are highly visible and the player can understand the potential of their army in no time.”

New entries will be posted every two weeks.

Elven Legacy is a fantasy strategy game that sends players on an epic quest aimed to restore the former glory of the Elven race. With a thrilling, non-linear storyline and tools that allow players to create their own missions and campaigns and share them in multiplayer mode, Elven Legacy will provide hours of exciting gameplay for strategy fans.

Elven Legacy is scheduled for release in March, 2009 and will be published worldwide by Paradox Interactive. It will be available for digital download at GamersGate for a suggested retail price of $29.99

Site Move complete

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

As you can see the site has moved. I will be changing out the banner, that was made by a friend so I had something new up!. The hit stats unfortunately are at 0 and the date was wrong, but hey. We’re on a new host, free from the restrictions of Wordpress’s free site. We’ll be able to set up a bulliten board, have chat sessions, host demos, and more! Let me know if you like the new look, and what else I can change. Obviously by the statement under the header, I’m going to drive my created content toward those of us that are gamer parents with little gamers (or big little gamers). We will still maintain the news and reviews as before, so most of the change will be in the created content. We won’t be copying GamerDad either, hopefully we will maintain a balance that’s what those of you have discovered us already know… news, quick and easy, reviews when we get the material, and now more new things for the future. I may even be bringing in a guest reviewer from time to time. Please, if you want to see something on the site, don’t hesitate to ask. There’s contacts at the top of the page, and I will be setting up a form email for easier communication. We also read all the comments if you want to comment below.
