Capcom confirms that the dead shall rise again in Dead Rising 2

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Sequel to 1.5 million-plus seller announced for multiple gaming platforms Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that Dead Rising 2 is in development for three different gaming platforms: the Xbox 360, PS3, and Windows PC. The sequel to the 1.5 million-plus selling Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2 will take the franchise to a new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies, the all new gambling paradise of Fortune City to explore and conquer plus a host of new in-game objects that can all be used as deadly weapons to stave off the zombie assault.

Dead Rising 2 is set several years after the infamous zombie invasion of Willamette. Unfortunately, the zombie virus was not contained at the conclusion of Dead Rising, spreading unchecked throughout the United States and Dead Rising 2 depicts a country where zombie outbreaks continue to strike.

Dead Rising 2 is being developed in partnership with up and coming Canadian developer Blue Castle Games. A number of members from the original Dead Rising team will be working alongside Blue Castle Games throughout the development process, including Capcom’s global head of research and development, Keiji Inafune, who as the game’s Producer will play an active role in the project.

Released in 2006, Dead Rising won praise across the globe for its mix of intense zombie action and dark humor, garnering numerous awards including IGN’s “Most Innovative Design for Xbox 360″, Gamespot’s “Best Action-Adventure Game” for 2006 and “Action Game of the Year” at the 2006 Spike TV Video Game Awards.

Wii Weekly update: 1 VC 1 WiiWare title

Monday, February 9th, 2009

No matter what you’ve got planned for Valentine’s Day, the latest additions to the Wii Shop Channel have what it takes to get your heart pounding. A new WiiWare game transports you to an eerie high school haunted by supernatural villains, while a classic Virtual Console title puts you in the heat of battle as a heroic mercenary. And remember: Just because these games are made for single-player action doesn’t mean you can’t share the excitement with your special someone.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

WiiWare

LIT (WayForward Technologies, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older-Violence, 800 Wii Points): Dark creatures have taken over Jake’s high school, and it’s up to you to guide him through each classroom in order to be reunited with his girlfriend Rachael. Existing light sources must be used smartly to create bridges of light for Jake to cross. One false step and Jake gets pulled into the darkness. Along the way he’ll encounter twisted versions of his school’s faculty, which must be battled in order to advance. LIT is a horror/puzzle game that requires the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers. It contains 30 levels, five boss battles, replay modes and several unlockables, including multiple endings, Dark Mode timed challenges and an unlockable character.

Virtual Console

Wolf of the Battlefield: MERCS (SEGA GENESIS, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older-Mild Violence, 800 Wii Points): Following a rash of terrorism outbreaks and increasing opposition from guerilla fighters, the U.S. government has decided to hire a group of professional mercenaries to undergo secret missions, battling through enemy lines to go where no ordinary soldier would dare to go. Based on the popular arcade game, the SEGA GENESIS version of MERCS lets you play as a MERC and also adds an original mode, allowing players to choose from five different characters. Take no prisoners as you shoot, drive jeeps and tanks, and clash against huge bosses to accomplish your mission.

Galaxy Online: Five Highlights

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Galaxy Online (http://forum.go.igg.com) is a fantastic strategy game developed by IGG (http://www.igg.com) set in the vast and endless universe, where players can develop their own galaxy, form fleets to invade other planets and much more. Now, let us introduce some of the highlights of the game briefly.

Mini Game Client
The size of the Galaxy Online client is about 20MB. It is very fast to download and begin your adventure. Despite the small file size, the game still features delicate graphics and amazing combat scenes, so this game is as convenient as if you were playing a web-based game with all the benefits of a downloaded client.

Six Available Factions Extremely Intense Competition
There are six factions available for players in the game. Each faction is allowed to attack hostile factions at will. In addition, there is one computer controlled faction – Galactic Pirates – which adds a random element to the intense faction competition. You may lead your allies to attack hostile factions, or you may be attacked by several hostile factions at the same time. Whatever the situation, the perfect faction design will give birth to never before seen intensity in an online game.

Strategy Overcome Controls
As a strategy game, Galaxy Online attaches importance to players’ strategy and tactics but not controls. Early when you begin to develop your first planet, you should consider carefully what should be done first, what should be done next, as well as every action you may take in the future. How should you gather resources the fastest? How can you develop a galaxy quickly? How can you form a strong fleet? Above all, you need careful planning and consideration. If you study the game again and again, only then can you become an expert Galaxy Online gamer.

Leisure Gameplay Not Wasting Time Meaninglessly
Once you have a perfect plan, you won’t need to spend much time in developing your planets. When you deploy your resources, you may even activate the Planet Trusteeship service and the server will help develop your planets even when you are not online. If you do not have much time to play the game, you can spend a few Mall Points to ensure you have a rich game experience, even if your time online is limited. So just make a plan to develop your planets and you will become strong in time.

Unique Plug-ins
There are some unique plug-ins available for players in the game. You may activate various plug-ins for convenience or introduce new mini-games through other plug-ins. You may even design your own plug-in! Want to make the game more fun? Well, it’s all up to you.

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. XP overview video

H.A.W.X. XP system overview and video

The XP system works like most such systems in its basic function:
- The player performs actions that get rewarded with XP
- XP adds up and, when reaching certain amounts, the player increases in level
- Each new level unlocks something

What is important to note is that the system is unified. It is the same system for Campaign and Team Deathmatch, single or multi player. Any XP that he gains in either of these feeds the same XP pool and any reward that he gets can be used all circumstances.

The actions that give XP are:
- Kills, both in Team Deathmatch and Campaign (both alone and in coop).
- Challenges. These are Achievement type requirements that the player can accomplish. For instance “Kill 20 air targets with Basic Missiles”. Each one can be done only once and provides a fixed amount of XP.

Levels are called ranks (and have appropriate names, like Lieutenant; the first one is Airman Basic and the last is General of the Airforce).

Levels can unlock:
- Planes
- A new weapon pack for a certain plane
- A new skin for a certain plane

After each mission or TDM match, the player can see his progress. He also is notified during missions when he has completed a challenge. There is also a special menu called Pilot Records where the player can check his current level and all the challenges, with his progress for each of them. He can also check what level unlocks a certain item by selecting that item (locked plane, weapon pack).
