50 Cent, also known as Curtis Jackson, sold an unbelievable 25 million copies of his first two albums, Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (2003), and The Massacre (2005). His follow-up album, Curtis, was perhaps his most introspective and human album, and we’re gearing up for the release this year of Before I Self Destruct, sure to continue his position atop the sales charts. In his most recent album Curtis, 50 Cent worked with some unlikely partners, including Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, and Nicole from the Pussycat Dolls, but no matter who he works with, the persona and talent of 50 Cent shines through. “I wanted this record to be human,” he says. “So that means displaying joy, laughter, pain, anger, aggression, and fear. I think this album is going to change how people think of me.”

If you want to sample the sound of 50 Cent, check out Xbox LIVE Marketplace! We have five different songs available:

If you’re an Xbox LIVE Gold member (if not, upgrade now!), and you want a chance to play with The Lonely Island, send a friend request to the following Gamertags and be online half an hour before (11:30 A.M. Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Caccone form the comedic trio The Lonely Island. Known for their work on the classic hit show Saturday Night Live, the group has just released their debut album, Incredibad, now out on Universal Republic Records. The album contains the Internet and YouTube hit “D*** In A Box,” along with other satirical musical and audio pieces featuring such notable artists as Natalie Portman, T-Pain, Norah Jones, and Jack Black. The three have been friends for a long time. As Samberg says, “Since junior high and high school, and then we all eventually moved in together, starting out, basically, doing joke music. Our first projects were always about mixing music with comedy.” The results ended up with them winning an Emmy award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics for “D*** In A Box.” And the album promises more of the same. Samberg continues, “We never concern ourselves with what happens after. We’re grateful for all the success. We jumped at this opportunity because music has always been a big part of what we do. In a way, this album is our thank you for all that great musical inspiration … The mission statement of this album is to be funny – period! For us, the comedy always has to come first.”

Hothead Games teams up with Indie developers to bring their games to new platforms

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

“Braid” for Mac and “The Maw” for Windows Coming Soon

Hothead Games revealed today its plans for a one-of-a-kind model of collaboration with other top-notch independent developers. This unique collaborative effort marries indie studios’ creative game designs with Hothead Games’ multi-platform development and digital distribution expertise to bring award-winning titles to new gaming platforms.

Among the first to join in this effort is Jonathan Blow, whose 2008 launch of Braid via Xbox LIVE Arcade amazed gamers with its innovative game play and distinctive art style. Hothead Games is partnering with Blow to bring his ground-breaking game to the Mac platform and has secured exclusive digital publishing rights to that version.

Further, Hothead Games has forged a new fellowship with The Maw developer Twisted Pixel. Launched last month on Xbox LIVE Arcade, Hothead will deliver The Maw to the Windows platform, integrating special features to make the crowd-pleaser compatible with multiple as-of-yet-unannounced digital distribution platforms and services.

“We focus on finding new distribution opportunities so that they can focus on what they do best: developing their next great game,” said Hothead Games COO Joel DeYoung. “These two titles represent only the tip of the iceberg. We’re committed to working with indies and helping them be successful, so look for lots more announcements to come.”

Joymax today announced that Legend IV: Tomb of the Qin-Shi Emperor, an update for historical fantasy MMORPG Silkroad Online, is nearing completion and will soon be ready for a worldwide launch. The warriors and mages of Silkroad Online must rally together and fight their way through the dungeon’s powerful guardians if they intend to face her wrath and restore order to the imperial tomb.

To aid in these efforts, the Legend IV update brings with it a number of potent new weapons, tough armor sets, and high-level abilities for both races, as well as a variety of new quests on Roc Mountain. The dungeon itself is open to players at level 70 or above with six floors containing nearly 50 never-before-seen monsters that must be defeated before facing BeakYung herself!

Activision and Nelvana announce video games based on Bakugan for 2009

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Activision Publishing and Nelvana Enterprises announce upcoming video games based on Toy of the Year winner Bakugan

Activision Publishing, Inc. announced today an agreement with Corus Entertainment Inc.’s Nelvana Enterprises to develop and distribute video games based on the breakout hit toy and wildly popular action animated television series Bakugan. The first Bakugan game will be released for Wii, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, and PS3 and PS2 in the fall of 2009.

“Bakugan’s success in 2008 speaks for itself and we’re confident it will be even bigger in 2009,” said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. “It is our goal to expand this proven property in a way that both fans and gamers will love.”

“Ever since Bakugan exploded in popularity, players have been clamoring for a video game version,” said Doug Murphy, President, Nelvana and GM, Corus Kids. “We share our fans’ excitement in doing battle in an interactive Bakugan world!”

Bakugan tells the story of Dan and his friends as they battle their Bakugan Brawlers to save the planet of Vestroia and, ultimately, Earth from destruction. The series airs on Cartoon Network in the United States and internationally, and on TELETOON in Canada. The toy line, developed by Spin Master Ltd., brings action to the popular genre of collectible trading card games with marble-like Bakugan spheres that transform into “battle brawling” action figures when rolled onto special game cards. A genuine toy craze in the 2008 holiday season, Bakugan recently won three “Toy of the Year” awards from The Toy Industry Association: overall Toy of the Year, Boy Toy of the Year, and Property of the Year.

The video games, under development by veteran Japanese studio NOW Production, will render the elements that made Bakugan a worldwide phenomenon into mind-blowing digital experiences. Everything a Bakugan enthusiast and gamer would love is here – intense battles, the ability to create your own Brawler, cartoon quality graphics and multiplayer combat.
