Tournament-Based MMO Set To Launch First Closed Beta

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Playenvy.com, a service provided by Nvinium Games, Inc., has announced closed beta testing (phase 1) will be held for its tournament-based MMO ‘Dungeon Bandits’ January 22-24. This first beta test of the game will focus on server stability and offer a glimpse at the intense tournament style game play that is hosted within a fun and challenging dungeon environment.

Dungeon Bandits, servicing North America and Australia, features a multitude of highly detailed 3D dungeon maps with a capture-the-treasure scenario that pits teams against each other, while also having them fight their way through dungeon monsters and bosses. The team that successfully thwarts off enemy attacks and brings the treasure out of the dungeon gets the victory and its spoils.

One of Dungeon Bandits’ key features is the ranking system and tournament brackets which allows players to compete head to head in daily tournaments and rewards the top players of the game with various prizes and of course bragging rights. Even players that do not enter the tournaments will still be able to have their rankings tracked and a chance at the being rewarded as an elite player.

Closed beta testing will be launched in multiple, 3 day phases to test various elements of the game. Full service of the game will launch in Mid March after all testing phases have been successfully completed. Players can apply now for access to the beta 1 test on the official Dungeon Bandits site dungeonbandits.playenvy.com. Keys will be limited so get your requests in soon.

The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom

2K Play announced today that The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom will be available on February 17, 2010 exclusively on Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft for 800 Microsoft Points. Set in a macabre and comical silent film era backdrop, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom tells the story of the buttwitt villain P.B. Winterbottom, and his ravenous quest to devour every flakey crust of delicious pie he can swipe. Players take on the game’s movie-level “shorts” in the most ingenious way possible to attain the highest score while stacking, smacking, and riding through time.

The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom comes fresh from the imaginative ovens of video game “bakers” The Odd Gentlemen and commences just after the portly P.B. Winterbottom swipes a mouth-watering bite of the mysterious Chronoberry Pie. That first scrumptious morsel unsuspectingly gives him the ability to break the rules of time and replicate himself at will, by recording himself and harnessing time-bending abilities to cooperate, compete against, and disrupt his past, present and future selves. These amazing abilities, like fresh ingredients mixed with a mental prowess for problem sleuthing, make The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom the tastiest Xbox LIVE Arcade game of 2010.

The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom will be available on Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360 on February 17, 2010.

UFORIA REVEALS THE CHARACTERS OF MERCENARY WARS

Full Character Descriptions Are Revealed For The Hotly-Anticipated Online Modern Warfare Shooter Mercenary Wars

Uforia, a new online game publisher specializing in massively multiplayer online games, today announced the all-new character lineup for its upcoming online modern warfare first-person-shooter Mercenary Wars. See below for full details of the four intriguing characters including Iron Strom, Saladin, Sensou and Blood Loss. For more information and to check out the game which is currently in open beta, players can visit http://uforia.mercenarywars.com.

Iron Storm

Iron Storm is the highest ranking female in the International Hessian Order. She founded the group in order to protect the North American region from newly established groups in other parts of the world. Clare began her military career with the United States Army and then moved on to other branches within the Armed Forces in order to gain expertise in various areas of modern warfare. She excelled within every area of military specialization, but specialized in covert operations with a focus on warfare in the Middle East.

Saladin

Saladin is the founder of the Medjay Mercenary Unit which he created to defend the Middle Eastern region from other mercenary units. Originally born in Yemen, Saladin traveled throughout the region training with some of the most renowned military units and even spending time with paramilitary groups mastering guerrilla tactics. His driving force is the notion that only natives of that region should have control over the natural resources and land, and he will do anything to push invading forces out of this territory.

Sensou

Sensou is the female leader of the United Asian Front after gaining control of the position from the founder of the group, Hyun Sugiyama, during a violent but swift rebellion. Her success stems from being able to unite the various Asian cultures under the umbrella organization — the United Asian Front. Prior to joining the United Asian Front, Sensou (then known by her birth name, Miyuki) was a researcher at various weapons development institutes throughout Asia and Europe. Her knowledge of advanced weapons systems led Sugiyama to recruit her into the organization to develop weapons with which they could eventually overpower the military forces in the region.

Blood Loss

“Blood Loss”, so named for his reputation for his aggressive tactics on the battlefield, is the second-in-command of the International Hessian Order. Along with “Iron Storm” he leads the International Hessian Order. His expertise are weapons that not only overpower the enemy, but completely aniline them. His main focus is not strategy, but logistics of how to win any particular battle. He is also the official tester of new weapons systems that the researchers create.

“We are excited to reveal the unique and interesting characters in Mercenary Wars, and we think our community of players will have a blast when they experience each of their unique, multi-faceted characteristics,” said Chris Keswani, Marketing Manager of Uforia.

About Mercenary Wars

Unlike other first person shooter games available today, Mercenary Wars features a unique stat system that players can use to upgrade and customize their lifelike characters. The combat in the game is designed to feel very realistic, while also allowing players to adjust their speed, accuracy, and health stats. Mercenary Wars is set in the not so distant future in a world where order and society as we know them are a thing of the past. The economies of the world have crashed and have been replaced with total chaos. New alliances have been forged and the world is now controlled by well-trained groups of mercenaries. Players must determine who to swear their allegiance to and fight side-by-side to the death, if necessary, in the quest to ensure becoming the new global powerhouse.

Mercenary Wars will also feature an innovative Artificial Intelligence system where computer controlled “bots” can be used in several ways ranging from practice to enhancing game play. Via four difficulty modes, players can select their desired skill level no matter what their previous FPS experience might be. Other features include multiple gameplay modes, a variety of character types and races, extensive ranking system including more than 50 different character ranks and title, an expansive number of weapons and equipment available for character customization and a built-in player-to-player audio communication tool for enhanced real-world combat simulation.

PAX 10 Winner The Amazing Brain Train! to arrive on WiiWare Jan. 18

NinjaBee brings Grubby Games star Professor Fizzwizzle to new platform

Professor Fizzwizzle, the diminutive genius and star of the 2008 PAX 10 award-winning PC title, The Amazing Brain Train!, will make his debut in a new destination, Nintendo WiiWare, the Wii system’s downloadable service, on Monday Jan. 18, 2010. Players will be able to hop on board and begin their own brain-boositng adventure for only 600 Wii Points (USD $6).

The new WiiWare title takes players on a mind-sharpening journey around Professor Fizzwizzle’s cartoon world stopping only to solve challenges and help his friends along the way. Fueled only by mental energy, The Amazing Brain Train! guides the player through 15 different mini-games in three addictive game play modes—quest, test and practice.

“This is one of the few brain training games that has a quest/story mode,” said Joey Kendall, Lead Programmer at NinjaBee. “It adds new goals and more purpose to the mini-games. The story is silly but it’s kind of like watching a Disney movie – it’s cute but there’s a lot of humor in there that only an adult would understand. It adds great comic relief.”

More than a year of work has been put into fine-tuning The Amazing Brain Train! and adapting it for the Wii. The result is a fun, ultra-challenging and addictive brain training game that is unlike any other in the WiiWare library.

“This is no ordinary brain game,” said Ryan Clark, co-founder of Grubby Games. “The Amazing Brain Train! contains features never before seen in the genre. It’s a departure from the minimalist brain games we’ve seen in the past. You can forget about goal-less gameplay: The Amazing Brain Train! is packed with quests, trophies and high scores that add an aspect of gameplay that other brain games just don’t have.”

The game includes 32 unlockable trophies, 16 categories of high score competition, unlockable tracks and quests, plus a test mode that grades your brain power and tells you just how far your mental juice can carry you.

“The game does a really good job of rewarding you for doing well,” Kendall said. “It kind of triggers that ‘achievement mentality.’ You get a couple trophies and find yourself saying, ‘I’ve got to get all of those.’”

The Amazing Brain Train! was originally released for PC, Mac and Linux in May of 2008 and in July of that year, the game was selected out of hundreds of entries as one of 10 games to be featured at the Penny Arcade Expo.
