Avatar Wave: Snowball Fight

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009
Remember that one time in band camp when you talked about doing cool things with your Xbox Avatars? I hope that cool thing involved taking a snowball and shoving it right in the face of other Xbox Avatars. The creative minds at Hotwave Games presents an insanely awesome thing to do with Xbox Avatars. Snowball fight!!! I present to you…for your Winter eyes only…Avatar Wave: Snowball Fight.

Why dream of a white Christmas when you can download and create your own with Avatar Wave: Snowball Fight!? It’s the next best thing to actually making your own snowball and hitting little Billy in the face with it. The best part is that with Avatar Wave: Snowball Fight the screaming mom heading straight towards you for breaking her little boy’s nose is out of the equation. Don’t break a nose, break an Avatar!

Avatar Wave: Snowball Fight puts your Avatar against others in a snowball fight for the ages. Make sure your Avatar is dressed for the occasion! It’s 1-4 players so you and some friends can finally go at it in a pile of snow. Come on I know you’ve always wanted to. Take a look at the game in action here.

You can toss snowballs in Arcade and Survival mode as well as play online on Xbox LIVE against other snowball fighters across the country. It’s the perfect game for the holiday season and the only one that won’t have Billy’s mom chasing after you. You can safely throw as many snowballs as you can.

“Snow is the most dominant in the feeling of Winter and thus we decided to make a snowball fighting game,” said Lead Programmer, Percy. “In the development process, we always keep the gameplay simple so that a wide range of players can have fun with it. Players can find some tactics in the game and they can defeat enemies easily by mastering those skills!”

Give your audience the gift of news about this game. It’s available now on the Xbox Live Marketplace for 240 Microsoft Points. From the Xbox dashboard, just head to Games Marketplace > Indie Games. Xbox Live Arcade 2008

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Oh the weather outside is frightful – so grab a cup of cocoa and enjoy this year’s biggest hits on Xbox LIVE Arcade. Gamers and critics agree that 2008 was a stellar year for Xbox LIVE Arcade, which saw record numbers and the most impressive line-up of titles ever.

Santa’s making a list and checking it twice – he knows that Xbox LIVE Arcade is home to the best pick-up-and-play downloadable games available and some of the year’s best titles. In fact, the games have been so good that people have earned more than 1.25 billion (yes, that’s billion with a “b”) Gamerscore and unlocked nearly 100 million Achievements in Xbox LIVE Arcade titles to date.

The Xbox LIVE team launched some of the highest rated titles this year, with more than 60 games scoring an industry-leading metacritic rating of over 75.

“Braid,” beat out big-budget blockbuster retail titles and was named the #2 video game of the year by TIME, “Best Independent Game” of the year by G4TV, and #5 game of the year by Associated Press. Developed by Number None, Inc. and published by Microsoft Game Studios, “Braid” is the No. 1 highest-rated game of all time on Xbox LIVE Arcade, and continues to be one of the top Xbox 360 games available. It even had the highest metacritic rating of any downloadable game this year with an astounding 93 (which was on-par with retail titles like critically acclaimed “Gears of War 2” and “Fallout 3”).

Gamers’ wish lists may also include this year’s favorites, “Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2” (90), “Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix” (89), and “Portal: Still Alive” (89). Last month, Bizarre Creations announced that there are now more than one million combined leader board entries for Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 1 & 2 – that’s a lot of people! Crowd pleaser “Castle Crashers” is also an indisputable favorite and was chosen as Wired Game|Life’s #3 Xbox 360 game of 2008 alongside blockbuster titles “Gears of War 2” and “Fable II.”

We know gamers have been enticed by this impressive line-up – 110 million trial games have been downloaded on Xbox LIVE Arcade to date.

“Momentum for Xbox LIVE Arcade has been incredible this year,” director of digitally distributed games for Microsoft Scott Austin, said. “Xbox LIVE Arcade has really become the top destination for premium downloadable games. And we’ve got a long list of games coming out in 2009 that we think will be just as incredible as what we already have on the service.”

While these new records ring in a winter wonderland, they come hot on the heels of the scorching Summer of Arcade – the most successful season Xbox LIVE Arcade had ever seen. The summer’s best titles which were released over the course of five weeks including “Bionic Commando: Rearmed,” and “Galaga Legions” led to a 58 percent increase in unique members purchasing titles. August broke the monthly revenue high at the time by 67 percent.

After all the eggnog and holiday pudding is gone, Xbox LIVE Arcade has another blockbuster-packed lineup of games coming out in 2009 – so look out for titles including “Lode Runner,” “The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai,” “South Park,” “Puzzle Quest: Galactrix,” and “R-Type Dimensions” to ring in the new year.

Review quickie: Doritos: Dash of Destruction (XBLA)

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Doritos: Dash of Destruction
Format: Xbox 360, Xbox Live
Cost: Free download
Points: 200 total

This is just a quickie review, for the game, Doritos: Dash of Destruction. It’s on Xbox Live Arcade right now as a free download, obviously to help the Doritos brand. You control either a Dinosaur trying to destroy the Doritos truck, or a Doritos truck trying to avoid the dinosaur and make deliveries to the “chips” on the board.  There’s not much depth here, but you get 6 levels (12 total) of easy distraction. They do have a skill level increase, but nothing too difficult. The dinosaur missions are a bit tougher, because he’s fairly large, and not as easy to control. It’s also the most fun to be the dinosaur, as you can destroy all buildings in your way. You can’t jump, so water is your enemy. With each level, you get upgraded, either with cybernetics or vehicle upgrades.

The graphics aren’t too flashy, and it’s worth mentioning that NinjaBee, creators of Kingdom for Keflings. If you’ve played that game, you know their quirky graphic style, and it’s here, making the game fun the see the first time around.

The music is unmemorable, but didn’t get in the way of the game either. You know when the new cars appear, or the dinosaurs are coming.

There’s not a whole lot of replay value, and you can probably finish the game in 20 min if you’re hardcore. The kids love being a dinosaur, and have probably fully played out the game many times over, just to destroy the buildings. It is a fun, fast way to get 200 points, but that’s about it.

Rating 2.5 of 5 – Nothing wrong with the gameplay or graphics, it’s just what it was designed for, a short, playable advertisement for Doritos.

DAYS OF WRATH – ON WHICH SIDE WILL YOU STAND?

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008
DEVELOPER DISCLOSES MORE INFORMATION

Foxy Films and Bay Area based game developer United Coders announced in September they had entered an agreement to develop a video game based on the movie “Days Of Wrath”, and in October they further announced the first gaming platform was Microsoft Xbox LIVE® Arcade.

The developer has now revealed the initial game download will feature the playable cities of Los Angeles, New York and Miami. Other cities are planned to be developed in the future and released as separately purchased add-on packs, and those cities include Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and San Francisco.

The four gangs available to play are the Triple-7s (featured in the film version of Days of Wrath), the Rollin Hustlers (urban gangsters with one foot in the world of Hip Hop and one foot in the grave), the Red Menace (old school Eastern European organized crime) and finally the Hellcats (an all girl gang).

Regardless of which gang you choose to play, your objective is clear: To become the most powerful gang in the country! Each gang will have unique strengths and weaknesses; you must take over and control the other gangs, using whatever means necessary – violence, extortion, corruption, drugs, money, and weapons.

The “Days Of Wrath” game is scheduled for a spring release 2009, and a trailer of the movie can be viewed by visiting www.daysofwrath.com.

Blazing Lizard’s Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball available on Xbox Live Arcade

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Who Would Win in a Fight, Pirates or Ninjas? The Age Old Question is Finally Answered!

Cockpit, Austin, TX – September 3, 2008 – Sides have been chosen, lines drawn and the smell of fresh rubber fills the salty air. There’s only one possible reason for these conditions – DODGEBALL! Gamecock Media Group announced today that Blazing Lizard’s Pirates vs. Ninjas™ Dodgeball has made its way onto Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox® 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Players must join the ranks of savage pirates or enter the dojo of the mysterious ninja (or robots or zombies!) as they battle to unconsciousness in the world’s most epic dodgeball matches.

“I love pirates,” said Captain Rick Stults, Console Chief at Gamecock Media Group.

“Everyone knows ninjas beat down pirates daily,” countered Chris Stockman, Studio Director of Blazing Lizard.

Continued Captain Rick, “Our office isn’t immune to the timeless debate and even now I brandish a cutlass and eye patch to show my support. The debate has gone on for long enough and I’m ready to see pirates rise to the top and put those pajama pansies in their place.”

To which Chris said, “What Rick doesn’t know is both prefer to settle the score on the dodgeball field. We are bringing together mortal adversaries for what I can guarantee will be intense dodgeball action. Albeit one in which the ninja warrior will prevail.”

Pirates vs. Ninjas™ Dodgeball brings the ancient debate to the apex of competitive sports. Dodgeballs in hand, the nautical outlaws square off against stealthy martial artists in beautifully designed 3-D environments. In addition to pirates and ninjas, gamers will also be able to unlock special zombie and robot teams. Each team has its own unique style and every character has its own devastating special move. The title includes a full story and traditional and enhanced dodgeball modes with multiplayer support for 4 players Local / 8 players Online, and 4-player Co-op modes. Games can be customized to allow anywhere from 1 to 5 balls into play for maximum ball-throwing intensity. The traditional and enhanced modes are also part of the story so players get further variety in the single player game.

Pirates vs. Ninjas™ Dodgeball is now available for download on Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360 for 800 points. Find out more and send diabolical musical messages to your friends at www.piratesvsninjas.com.
