Besides being nominated in the Excellence in Audio category BRAINPIPE: A Plunge to Unhumanity is now also featured on the IGF Audience Award ballot!

The great thing about the Audience Award ballot is the fact that as the name implies YOU the audience gets to vote and directly affect who ends up being the winner. BRAINPIPE: A Plunge of Unhumanity was one of the chosen few pulled from over two hundred plus entrants to be honored in the Audience Award category. Now it’s up to you, faithful gamer, to push it to the top.

Voting for BRAINPIPE: A Plunge to Unhumanity isn’t quite a one click affair like the game itself since you have to enter an email address, but it comes pretty close. In order to vote all you have to do is the following:

1. Click on over to the IGF’s Audience Award page, found here.
2. From the dropdown menu choose BRAINPIPE: A Plunge to Unhumanity. You will note that it is the very first game and already appears as the selection when you get to the page. How cool is that? So even if you’re lazy and you’re tired of dropdown menus you can still vote for your favorite surreal endurance run game.
3. Enter your email address and with one click (just like the game!) send your vote sailing across the Intertubes.

Easy! No worries about some sort of complex registration scheme, or yet another password to remember, just a matter of one, two, three and you’re done. There’s absolutely no excuse not to vote!

Haven’t played it? Head on over to the official product page at publisher Shrapnel Games and download the newly updated demo.

You’ll also find more information about the game, and for those of you who already own the title there is a patch bringing your game up to 1.0.1 available for download. The patch corrects the joystick calibration bug which could result in an infinite loop while calibrating your ’stick.

BRAINPIPE: A Plunge to Unhumanity is available as an immediate direct download from Shrapnel Games for the low price of $14.95 and comes in either Windows or Mac flavor. Featuring ten levels of visual violation and a siren song soundtrack, BRAINPIPE: A Plunge to Unhumanity is a dizzying race for a high score unlike any other game.

BRAINPIPE: A Plunge to Unhumanity is up for an Excellence In Audio award at the 11th Annual Independent Games Festival, held in conjunction with the Games Developers Conference in San Francisco. The awards will be held on March 25th.

Nyko Technologies Wins the CNET “Best of CES” Award for Hottest Video Game Product at 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Nyko Technologies today announced it won a “Best of CES” award for its Wand wireless controller for the Nintendo Wii in the Gaming category. This marks the second year in a row that a Nyko Technologies product has taken home the award. Produced and judged by editors from CNET (www.cnet.com), the winners of the “Best of CES” awards were announced Saturday, January 10, at the 2009 International CES in Las Vegas.

Selected by CNET’s unbiased expert editors, winners are recognized as having the hottest products in their respective technology categories for their unmatched innovation and creativity, and their ability to excite consumers and help them explore a world gone digital. CNET editors reviewed hundreds of entries, as well as scoured the 2009 International CES show floor for products to consider for the prestigious award.

The ten categories include car tech; cell phones and smart phones; computers and hardware; digital photo and video; gaming; GPS; home audio; home video; MP3 and portable video players; and televisions. A video of the winners and finalists showcasing their technologies can be found at http://www.cnet.com/ces .

The Wand is the world’s most advanced alternative to the Wii Remote, containing Nyko’s all-new Trans-Port technology which enables control and vibration feedback to be electrically replicated on a compatible attachment accessory, providing for a richer gaming experience and accurate digital input response. Current attachments made for the Wii Remote use a series of mechanical systems to access buttons on the controller and cannot provide vibration feedback. The Wand aims to change this with Trans-Port technology by enabling compatible accessories to digitally access key button commands. Nyko expects to ship the Wand to select retail stores nationwide in April 2009.

“We’re very proud of winning this year’s Best of CES in the Gaming category with the Wand and pleased with the warm welcome it has received with its debut,” said Chris Arbogast, director of marketing at Nyko Technologies. “Nyko constantly strives to provide new products of significant value to consumers that will enhance the video game playing experience and recognition of the Wand for Best in Gaming is a testament to these continued efforts.”

“Each year at the show, CNET editors scour the show floor to determine the top technologies that will set the trends for the coming year,” said Scott Ard, vice president of content at CNET. “Chosen from hundreds of products at the 2009 International CES, the Wand demonstrates the innovation and creativity to be awarded our “Best of CES” award within the video game industry.”

World of Goo wins Game of the Year at Game Tunnel’s 7th Annual Independent Game of the Year Awards

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008
December 30, 2008 - Towering over all other games, World of Goo was the 2008 winner of the Independent Game of the Year award. The award, the culminating event of Game Tunnel’s 7th Annual Game of the Year awards, is given each year to the most outstanding Independent Video Game.

The GameTunnel Independent Game of the Year awards have been established to honor ingenuity, innovation and excellence in Independent Games. This year’s awards began December 6th with the Sports Game of the Year award and have continued through 3 weeks and 13 categories finishing with the Top 10 Independent Games of the Year and World of Goo taking the top spot.

“World of Goo is one of those games that really shows what Indie is all about,” said Russell Carroll, editor-In-Chief at GameTunnel. “It was created on a shoestring, fueled by the passion of two people who did whatever it took to make their game. Their passion is evident throughout the game. It’s a fantastic game to play and it has been tremendous to see World of Goo getting so much mainstream awareness. It was an easy pick as our Independent Game of the Year winner this year.”

While World of Goo was the winner, it was only one of 40 different games that were included in the 2008 awards.

“In covering something as unique as Indie games, it’s always been our pleasure to highlight a large number of games in our awards. The fact is that many of these games are not as fortunate as World of Goo and are completely unknown to the gaming public. There are hundreds of Indie games released each year, and we’re happy to be able to do these awards to make the public aware of a few gems that they might have otherwise missed.”

An article of the Top 10 games that also provides reviews and links to all the award winners can be found at: http://www.gametunnel.com/article-705.htm. The list of all award categories and winners is as follows:

An engaging and interactive experience wins judges over in the Outstanding Digital Design category
Brighton – NCsoft®, the world’s premier publisher and developer of massively multiplayer online (MMO) games, has won the award for ‘Outstanding Digital Design’ for its Discover Lineage II website, in the Digital Media Awards: South (DiMA:S). The site was nominated in recognition of its high impact and engaging design, coupled with an immersive, interactive experience – two qualities associated with the Lineage® II game world.

Discover Lineage II is designed to introduce new players into the epic Lineage II universe. Rather than focusing on mechanical game features, the site serves to present the unique selling points of the game within a familiar environment: an interactive storybook. In doing so, the site appeals to a broader gaming audience, and further reinforces NCsoft’s commitment to developing a more accessible game experience.

“I’m delighted that the Discover Lineage II site has received this recognition. It was a real challenge to condense a game world as rich and vast as this, into a fun and immersive 10 minute microsite experience” said Mirko Gozzo, Marketing Director, Europe for NCsoft West.

Discover Lineage II was developed in-house at NCsoft and was rolled out in 11 languages in April, 2008.
