Capcom’s long lost game, Dark Void Zero now on DSiWare

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Capcom’s legendary lost project, Dark Void Zero, is now available to download on DSiWare. The never-before-released game straight from the Capcom vault is hitting one day before its next-generation sequel, Dark Void, arrives on store shelves for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.   Before you get your hands on the new high-flying adventure, check out Dark Void Zero and see where it all began for 500 points on DSiWare.

To commemorate Dark Void’s humble origins, Capcom commissioned the recreation of the original 8-bit classic, now re-titled “Dark Void Zero”, on the DSi platform. Players take on the role of Rusty, the first human born in the Void.  With the aid of Nikola Tesla and his trusty jetpack, Rusty embarks on a quest to prevent the evil alien race, “the Watchers”, and their minions from taking over Earth in this retro 2-D action-adventure.   The game also features an authentic 8-bit soundtrack by famed composer Bear McCreary, the man behind the music of Dark Void and Battlestar Galactica!
Dark Void Zero is available to download today for 500 points on DSiWare and will be coming soon for iPhone and PC!   Dark Void Zero was developed by Other Ocean Interactive

Pokémon relaunches website in time for the upcoming HeartGold and SoulSilver releases

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Free Online Mini-Games, Pokémon Episode Viewer, Pokémon Trainer Club, New and Improved Pokédex, All The Latest News and More in One Place For the First Time!

The Pokémon Company International announces today the complete re-launch of the online Pokémon universe with the new and improved Pokémon.com. Providing fans with a comprehensive entertainment destination for all things Pokémon, the new site brings together Pokémon animation, video games and the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), like never before. The new site will introduce free online mini-games, episodes of the popular animated series, a fully interactive Pokédex, a “Pokémon Trainer Club”, all the latest news and more. The new Pokémon.com gives visitors a user-friendly layout, improved functionality and the first one-stop destination in Pokémon history.

“Pokémon.com unifies the Pokémon experience under one roof, providing fans with a fun entertainment destination where they can play mini-games, watch Pokémon animation, and explore the Pokémon universe,” said J.C. Smith, director of marketing. “The re-launch of the site includes a number of exciting new features and functions with an emphasis on being a fun and parent-approved place to visit online.”

To celebrate the new site’s launch and highlight one of its most important additions – the “Pokémon Episode Viewer” – Pokémon.com will showcase the very first season of the animated series, which is now in its 12th season. Each week, new episodes of the series will air allowing fans to see where it all began. This schedule will continue beyond the first season, giving younger fans a chance to follow the series in its entirety for the first time.

The Pokémon Fun Zone, a new totally immersive and free casual games area of the site, allows kids to play mini-games and collect Trainer Tokens, rewarding fans for time spent on the site. These mini-games are quick to pick up and play, but are challenging enough to keep Pokémon fans entertained for hours. For example, in Pachirisu’s Click-Clack Attack, players must shoot pucks into corner pockets of the playing board. You can earn bonus points by deflecting the pucks into each other to sink more than one in a single shot. And there are already plans to add more fun titles to keep Pokémon fans coming back for more.

Additional areas to access in the Pokémon Fun Zone include: a Trainer Builder, which allows users to completely customize their personal Trainers; a Trainer Store, where they can buy new gear for their Trainers; and a downloads page for wallpapers and screensavers.

Additional highlights fans can expect on the site include:

· The most current and up-to-date news announcements featuring information on video game character distributions, Pokémon promotions and partnerships

· The ability to keep track of Pokémon Organized Play ratings and stay aware of upcoming local Pokémon TCG and Video Game events

· New ways to search through the Pokédex containing all 493 current Pokémon including new artwork from the upcoming Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver Versions

· Updated search functionality in the Pokémon TCG card database that lets players search 2,500+ cards by sorting from more than a dozen different card elements

· The first place to find information on the eagerly anticipated 2010 Pokémon Video Game and TCG World Championships and other Pokémon tournaments

The news of the website re-launch comes in advance of some eagerly anticipated product launches for Pokémon in 2010, including the February 10 release of the Pokémon Trading Card Game: HeartGold & SoulSilver expansion, the March 14 release of the Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version video games for the Nintendo DS™, and the DVD release of the brand-new, feature-length film, Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life.

Pokémon is one of the top children’s franchises in history. The Pokémon video game series has sold more than 197 million units worldwide since its inception 13 years ago. Additionally, Pokémon is one of the top collectible trading card games of all time. Other extensions of the property include 12 seasons of the animated television series, which is currently broadcast in as many as 153 countries in more than 25 languages. Pokémon films and DVDs continue to reach fans in amazing numbers, ranking at the top of the box office in Japan.

Nintendo Download: 7 games to start off the new year

Monday, January 4th, 2010
Should old acquaintance be forgot? We can’t remember. But what we can remember is that this week’s downloadable lineup from Nintendo asks a lot of questions. The Nintendo DSiWare™ service wonders if you can master missiles with Trajectile™, lead animals to their proper pens with Animal Puzzle Adventure or match wits with TV chef Gordon Ramsay in Hell’s Kitchen Vs. The WiiWare™ service puts you in charge of maximizing your rubber duckie output with Heron: Steam Machine, asks you to aim for the bull’s-eye with Pub Darts and wonders if you have an itchy trigger finger with Fast Draw Showdown. Finally, Final Fight™ 3 on the Virtual Console™ service makes you wonder if the fight is ever really final.

Nintendo DSiWare
Trajectile
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 500 Nintendo DSi Points™
Description: Trajectile is a puzzle game that’s as much about firepower as it is about brainpower, requiring you to line up your shot and launch a flurry of missiles at enemy targets. Three types of missiles are at your disposal, each one with its own characteristics – but all of them can bounce off walls on their path to smash, blast or drill through enemies and blocks. Along the way, you’ll find item blocks just waiting to be destroyed so that you can obtain special power-ups … and cause even more destruction. Be careful though, as missile type and position are predetermined and you get only a limited number of launches per stage. Complete multiple classes containing numerous individual stages, earning medals when you clear stages in fewer than the given number of turns. Are you ready to take aim at becoming a Trajectile master?

Animal Puzzle Adventure
Publisher: Aksys Games
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E10+ (Everyone 10 and Older) – Mild Suggestive Themes
Price: 500 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Animal Puzzle Adventure is a simple puzzle game where you have to lead various animals to their respective barns placed on the map, while avoiding pitfalls and cliffs and using the objects on the field to your advantage. There are 10 stages per level with a total of five levels, creating 50 stages in all. After clearing a stage, you unlock a piece of a photo. Once you clear all 10 stages in a level, the wallpaper for that level becomes unlocked and you can then view it in the gallery. With so many puzzles to unravel, you’ll find yourself immersed in the puzzle-riffic world of Animal Puzzle Adventure.

Hell’s Kitchen Vs.
Publisher: Ludia
Players: 1-2
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 800 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Hell’s Kitchen Vs. is based on the U.S. TV phenomenon where world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay puts aspiring chefs through rigorous culinary tests. The game recreates the show’s pressure-cooker atmosphere as two players battle head-to-head in an arcade-style kitchen challenge. Try to conquer your opponent in each time-management test, while taking the heat of Gordon Ramsay judging and rating your performance at every stage of the game.

WiiWare
Heron: Steam Machine
Publisher: Triangle Studios
Players: 1-4
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 500 Wii Points™
Description: Heron: Steam Machine is a game about a factory where rubber duckies are being produced by a large steam engine. On this steam engine, there are four different gauges which you will have to watch carefully. By connecting the pipes, you will earn points and relieve some of the pressure, keeping the machine running just a little bit longer. If one of the gauges reaches its maximum, the machine will eventually blow up, and the game is over. If you were lucky enough to achieve a high score, make sure you enter your name in the list so other players can compete with you. In Multiplayer, you are able to cooperate with friends in maintaining the steam machine. When you play with two, three or four players, the screen is divided into sections with different background colors. Each player is able to solve his or her own part of the puzzle. Players are restricted to their own section of the screen, so you will have to work together to make the pipes fit properly. (Additional accessories are required for multiplayer play and are sold separately.)

Pub Darts

Players: 1-4
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone) – Alcohol Reference
Price: 500 Wii Points

The game is set in a local pub where the players will settle in to play some of their favorite dart games, including 501, Cricket, Around the Clock, Killers and Baseball. Controls function just like throwing a real dart. Players are able to create their own personal profiles, including selecting their avatar image from a collection of creative characters and the design they would like displayed on the dart flights.

Fast Draw Showdown

ESRB Rating: T (Teen) – Alcohol Reference, Violence

Vitual Console hits #300!

Every Monday for two and a half years, Nintendo has introduced new downloadable games and applications for the Wii console. Today marks a milestone for the Virtual Console section of the Wii Shop Channel, home of some of the greatest titles in video game history. The classic The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask becomes the 300th Virtual Console title available for download. It’s one of the highest-rated Nintendo 64 games of all time, and its three-day time cycle and deeper, darker storyline offer players a different experience than a traditional Zelda game. People who played it years ago can relive their gaming roots, while those who never picked it up can discover its fun and charm for the first time.

Not to be overlooked, the second Art Style puzzle game for Nintendo DSiWare™ makes its debut, along with the WiiWare™ games CRYSTAL DEFENDERS R2 from SQUARE ENIX and Silver Star Chess from Agetec, Inc.

Virtual Console
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask (Nintendo 64, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone – Cartoon Violence, 1,000 Wii Points™): Link™ must save the world! This time, he finds himself trapped in Termina, an alternate version of Hyrule that is doomed to destruction in just three short days. Link must race to recover the Ocarina of Time (which allows him to manipulate time in multiple ways), defeat challenging bosses in dungeons spread across Termina and discover the key to the mystery of Majora’s Mask. Along the way, he’ll obtain new weapons and items and help other characters (some strangely familiar) in their everyday lives. In addition, Link must use a wide assortment of masks scattered throughout Termina, each with its own specific use or power. Never before have three days offered so much in the way of action, mind-boggling puzzles and depth. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is an adventure unlike any other!

Nintendo DSiWare
Art Style™: PiCTOBiTS™ (Nintendo, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Nintendo DSi Points™): Your goal in Art Style: PiCTOBiTS is simple: clear large blocks that fall from above (“megabits”) by combining them with “bits” (square blocks) of the same color. Add in the ability to pick up bits and place them anywhere on the touch screen, and you’ll quickly find that strategy is critical to your success. By clearing the bits, you gradually reveal each stage’s hidden game character – look for favorites from classic NES™ titles – and earn coins that can be spent to unlock DARK stages or to listen to the game’s soundtrack in MUSIC mode. This grand mix of familiar elements and new game play leads to the uniquely enjoyable experience that is PiCTOBiTS.

WiiWare
CRYSTAL DEFENDERS R2 (SQUARE ENIX, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): In CRYSTAL DEFENDERS R2, you must deploy various units, such as Fencers and Black Mages, to stop waves of encroaching monsters from escaping the area with your party’s crystals. There are many types of units to choose from: Some specialize in powerful short-range attacks, some wield far-reaching magicks and still others are equipped with bows, enabling them to bring down aerial foes. Deploy units in strategic locations to take full advantage of their traits. Each time an enemy breaches your defenses and reaches a map’s exit, your party will lose crystals. When all your crystals are gone, the game is over.CRYSTAL DEFENDERS R2 offers several new, challenging maps containing multiple entrances and exits. It also introduces three varieties of Power Crystals, allowing you to enhance the abilities of your units, while new jobs, including Flintlock and Tinker, set the stage for even more complex strategies. Can you defend all the maps without losing a single crystal?

Silver Star Chess (Agetec, Inc., 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone – Mild Suggestive Themes, 500 Wii Points): Silver Star Chess has two modes: 1-Player and 2-Player. 1-Player mode allows you to play a chess match against the computer opponent. 2-Player mode allows you to play against another person. In 1-Player mode, you can select one of five different computer opponents, as well as turn the background music off, adjust sound effects and access in-game help features. Also, during the match, you can redo your last move, save the game at any point or resign from the game. After the match has ended, you can review each move made during the match. While reviewing the match in this way, you can resume that match at any point.

Nintendo adds new titles to the Nintendo DSi Shop and the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Mondays. Users with broadband Internet access can redeem Wii Points or Nintendo DSi Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel.
