Wii Rock Band DLC this week brings the classic rock

Harmonix and MTV Games announced today 18 new tracks coming this week to the Rock Band Music Store catalogue of downloadable content for the Wii system, including seven tracks from 80s power rockers REO Speedwagon and Styx. This week’s music update also includes songs from All That Remains, The Clash, Devo, Hautewerk, The Ramones, and System of a Down.

Three of Styx’s biggest singles were recently re-recorded for Rock Band, including “Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)” and “Renegade” originally featured on the band’s eighth studio album Pieces of Eight (1978), plus “Too Much Time on My Hands” originally featured on the band’s 1981 concept album Paradise Theatre.

REO Speedwagon’s timeless classics “Ridin’ the Storm Out,” originally featured on the band’s third album of the same name (1973), “Roll With the Changes,” originally featured on the band’s seventh studio album, You can Tune a Piano but You Can’t Tuna Fish (1978) and “Take It on the Run,” originally featured on the band’s 9-times platinum 1980 album Hi Infidelity will also debut in the Wii Rock Band Music Store this week.

“Can’t Stop Rockin’”, the new collaborative song between Styx and REO Speedwagon, which the bands recorded together in anticipation of their upcoming Can’t Stop Rockin’ tour, which kicks off May 13, will also be available next week.

Hautewerk adds three tracks from their debut album Stop Start Again (2006) including “Stop Start Again,” “Alone in My Head” and “I Know Where You Came From.”

As previously announced, the tracks from Styx, REO Speedwagon and Hautewerk were released last week to owners of Xbox 360 and PS3.

This week’s Wii update also includes eight tracks from the Rock Band back catalogue starting with three songs from Massachusetts-based metalcore band All That Remains – “Two Weeks” and “Chiron” from 2008’s Overcome as well as “This Calling” from Fall of Ideals (2006).

Politically-charged hard rockers System of a Down add two tracks with “B.Y.O.B.” from Mezmerize (2005) and title track “Toxicity” from the 2001 album. Two classic punk tracks are also on the way courtesy of The Clash’s “Complete Control” from the band’s self-titled 1977 debut album and The Ramones’ “Teenage Lobotomy” from Rocket to Russia (1977). Rounding out the content updated is Devo’s “Girl U Want,” the first single from the band’s album Freedom of Choice (1980).

Wii fans can expect a rollout of previously released downloadable Rock Band content until the entire back catalogue of more than 660 songs is available.

Cryostatsis now available

Cryostasis brings its unique brand of icy terror to North American gamers without the use of DRM software. The first five titles published by Aspyr under license from 1C in North America – Men of War, Death Track: Resurrection, Cryostasis, Necrovision, and 4X4 Hummer – will all be DRM-free.

Cryostasis brings gamers to the Arctic Circle, Russian North Pole station “Pole 21″ in 1981. They take on the role of Alexander Nesterov, a meteorologist caught inside the “North Wind,” an old nuclear ice-breaker, frozen in the ice many years ago. This steel beast once fought for its country, but it fell into an ice trap as did every living thing onboard. Alex will fight the cold and what lives within as he tries to find out what happened. Cryostasis is a drama about a ship and her crew evolving in an atmosphere of ice and animal fear.

Rock Band adds Jane’s Addiction’s “Nothing Shocking” album to DLC this week

Harmonix and MTV Games announced today Nothing’s Shocking, the second album from eclectic alternative rock group Jane’s Addiction will be added to the Rock Band Music Store of downloadable content next week for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.

Jane’s Addiction made its major-label debut with the release of Nothing’s Shocking in 1988. The album was well received by music critics and introduced fans to the hit “Jane Says,” which is now considered a signature track for the band. Nothing’s Shocking has since been named in Rolling Stone’s “Top 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”

Next week’s Rock Band Music Store lineup will feature ten tracks from Nothing’s Shocking with “Mountain Song” from Nothing’s Shocking already featured on the Rock Band 2 soundtrack. The DLC album includes the following tracks:

Harmonix and MTV Games announced today 11 new tracks coming this week to the Rock Band Music Store catalogue of downloadable content for Wii home videogame console from Nintendo, including Journey’s definitive power ballad “Don’t Stop Believing.” This week’s music lineup also includes tracks from American hard rock band Foo Fighters, British alternative band Oasis and three family-friendly tracks from the favorite pineapple dweller, Spongebob Squarepants.
Described by Allmusic as “one of the best opening keyboard riffs in rock,” Journey’s smash 1981 hit “Don’t Stop Believing” will be released for download in the Wii Rock BandMusic Store this week. “Don’t Stop Believing” is one of the most referenced rock songs in popular culture, receiving prominent placement in the 2007 series finale of The Sopranos.

Pat Benatar’s classic single “Heartbreaker” from the In the Heat of the Night album (1979) will also be available for download along with The Von Bondies signature hit “C’Mon C’Mon” from their debut album Pawn Shoppe Heart (2004). In addition, the content update will also include the 2008 single “Geraldine” from Scottish alternative band Glasvegas.

Wii fans will also be able to purchase and download three tracks from Nickelodeon sensation SpongeBob SquarePants including “I Can’t Keep My Eyes Off of You,” “The Best Day Ever” and “Where’s Gary?” from the 2006 album SpongeBob SquarePants: The Best Day Ever.

Harmonix and MTV Games announced that metal band Bullet For My Valentine and alternative rockers The Shins will make their debut this week in the Rock Band Music Store of downloadable content. In addition, heavy metal band Black Tide delivers another explosive track to Rock Band fans.

Black Tide first delivered its fast paced metal sound on Rock Band in 2008 with the hit single “Shockwave” and now brings metal fans an encore with “Warriors of Time” from the band’s debut album Light from Above (2008). Metal fans have a second reason to visit the Rock Band Music Store this week with the Welsh metal-core band Bullet For My Valentine bringing their first track to Rock Band with “Waking the Demon” featured on Scream Aim Fire (2008).

Alternative indie-pop band The Shins premiere in the Rock Band Music Store with “New Slang” from the band’s 2001 album Oh, Inverted World .

As previously announced, next week’s Rock Band content update will feature a 6-pack from singer/songwriter Toby Keith. The “Toby Keith Pack 01″ is a compilation of the most popular songs spanning Keith’s entire career including his first number one hit “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” from his 1993 self-titled album. Wheelman released on PS3, 360 and PC

Adrenaline-Pumped Super Moves and Hollywood-Style Driving Action Take to the Streets of Barcelona

Ubisoft, Midway and Tigon Studios announce that Wheelman, the action-packed driving game featuring film star Vin Diesel as undercover agent and expert driver-for-hire Milo Burik, has shipped and is available at retailers. Wheelman is available for the Xbox 360, the PS3 and Windows PC and is rated “T” for Teen by the ESRB.

In Wheelman, Milo Burik gets caught in a crossfire of chaos and corruption while trying to stay one step ahead of local law enforcement and rival gangs in the beautifully re-created city of Barcelona, Spain. In Wheelman, the player’s car is the weapon. Players weave in and out of traffic, engaging in intense vehicular warfare, leaving wreckage in their wake as they take out anything or anyone that gets in the way with innovative super moves like “Vehicle Melee,” “AirJack” and the “Cyclone.”
