Gamestop has 3 for 2 on used games this weekend

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Yup. They are having their famous buy 2 get 1 free sale on used games at Gamestop. We just drove by and it was a madhouse. Probably a lot of DS and 360 games flying out the doors. I talked to one lady who bought 9 DS games for her kid, who got a shiny new DS for Christmas. I’m not too sure she knew the ESRB on the games she bought. One thing to remember: when you get a used DS game at places like this that sell games in generic cases (when someone just sells them the cart), remember o look at the actual cartridge for the ESRB rating. It should be on them. It should also be on the disc if you ar buying a Wii, PS2, PS3 or 360 game. Most good employees have an idea of the ballpark rating for a game or can look it up. Another good tip for buying something used that is in a generic package is to check out the new version of a game for the rating. Happy hunting!

‘Store Within a Store’ is Newest Attraction at The World’s Greatest Toy Store

Holiday shoppers visiting Toys”R”Us Times Square will find a new surprise waiting for them—a new Nintendo department offering an interactive way to have fun, while experiencing the wide range of Nintendo products available this holiday season and beyond.

The Nintendo department, located on Level One of the Toys”R”Us international flagship store, is nearly 1,000 square feet and is easily visible from the store’s windows overlooking Broadway. Visitors to The World’s Greatest Toy Store™ will find an interactive Wii™ wall within the department, offering shoppers the chance to play select Wii games. Additionally, shoppers interested in sampling a portable experience can play one of eight Nintendo DS™ systems with a variety of games. The department also features a Nintendo gallery, showcasing images from Nintendo’s history of classic and current games.

The Nintendo department also features specially trained Nintendo experts who can walk shoppers through the department’s experience and provide information about Nintendo products. Shoppers can easily identify these experts by their special Nintendo-branded uniforms.

“What we’ve been seeing all year long is the expansion of video game fun to people of both genders, and all ages and tastes—there’s literally something for everyone,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “But in recent weeks, Nintendo products appear to be appealing to even more people, as every form of fun is being measured against a price tag. And that’s what makes this experience in Toys”R”Us so compelling—all the fun and information is available right at your fingertips.”

“Toys”R”Us Times Square is the premier New York City destination for families, and Nintendo offers the ultimate family gaming experience, making a partnership between our two brands the perfect match,” said Bill Lee, Vice President, Divisional Merchandise Manager, Toys”R”Us, U.S. “The new, dedicated Nintendo department at Toys”R”Us Times Square allows us to offer customers an exceptional interactive experience for testing out the latest Nintendo products.”

In addition to the new, experiential Nintendo department, shoppers can also find the full range of Nintendo products in the “R” Zone department on the store’s Lower Level.

Save On All Available Titles Now Through December 14th!

Hampstead, NC, 10 December 2008

Wednesday of this week, December 10th, our annual holiday sale was to end but then one frosty eve we were visited by three spirits: the Zorg of Christmas past, the Yamato of Christmas present, and the Bog Beast of Christmas future. The spirits made a general nuisance of themselves, with the Zorg drinking all our brandy, the Yamato blowing away the manger scene on the front lawn, and the Bog Beast soiling all over the carpet.

Perturbed at these spectral intruders we exclaimed, “Foul wraiths, why do you torture us so? What is it you wish from us?”

The three moaned in response, “You must keep your holiday sale going! Why halt it while it’s so popular? Don’t scrooge the good gamers over!”

Well, they had a point. Our annual holiday sale, kicked off before Thanksgiving, was going great. While it had to end at some point why end it on the 10th? Why not give folks a few extra days to take advantage of the best savings of the year?

Microsuite Poised to Be Most Complete Payment System Available through Digital Distribution

GamersGate, the leading digital distribution platform creating easily accessible gaming experiences for gamers worldwide, today announced the first launch in a series of suites and tools for publishers to increase revenue and streamline operations through digital distribution. The new suite, GamersGate Microsuite, will offer a complete solution for micropayments.

GamersGate Microsuite will allow publishers to sell microitems, enhancements, add-ons, and digital content both in the lobby of the game and in-game. The suite is easy for publishers to integrate into their games and gamers will have all items and purchases collected on their account at GamersGate. The Microsuite empowers developers and publishers to own the transactional elements of their properties with the simple addition of a SDK. At the same time, the consumer benefits from a direct relationship with the game’s publisher and having all their purchases collected on one account.

“I’m confident that this suite will change the landscape for transactions and the complete business model for the industry,” says Theodore Bergquist, CEO of GamersGate. “As consumers increasingly turn to digital distribution as the primary source for gaming, this suite will significantly simplify and improve the experience for developer, publisher, and consumer.”

GamersGate is currently finalizing contracts with several top-tier publishers to integrate the microsuite into their titles. Titles using the system are expected to roll out late Q1 2009.

Nov. 24, 2008

If you want people to know what gifts you want for the holidays, you need to speak up. And who better to help you speak up about your love for Nintendo DSTM games than iconic Nintendo video game character MarioTM himself?

Starting today, people can visit http://mariowishlist.varitalk.com and check off the Nintendo DS items they hope to receive for the holidays. After users provide some other fun information, your friend, relative or special someone will receive a voice mail or e-mail with a personalized message from Mario about what Nintendo DS gifts you hope to receive.

To provide even more shopping support, Nintendo’s holiday Web site is there to help both gift-givers and gift-getters streamline their shopping lists, by offering information about Nintendo DS systems and games. To check it out, go to http://giftcenter.nintendo.com. If you’re the one doing the shopping, you can browse through the holiday Web site based on the type of gifts enjoyed by the person you’re shopping for, such as the Mario fan, the music groupie or the puzzle fanatic.

But let’s say you’re the one doing the receiving. The holiday Web site will help you build a wish list and send it as a hint to your loved ones in an e-card with special holiday designs. This feature will be available through the end of December.
